Default Chaotic Smash/Dlux Superlite axle build thread

I have had the pleasure of knowing about the new Dlux axles for quite some time now.

I had just bought a set of alumifighters the day before I found out about them.

Here we are a few months later....

I have had the pleasure of being able to work closely with Dlux this last year and he has really got me excited about the comp scene when I was starting to get "burned out"

Now starts my build:

Chaotic SS chassis (switch smash)
Dlux carbon/delrin lightweight axles
Dlux wheels
Chaotic Crawlers links
Chaotic Titanium everything (obviously)
Axial scx10 shocks
Holmes Hobbies 30t skewed arm matched motors with stage 4 weight kit
CC sidewinder micros
CC BEC
4pk

I have been brewing this new chassis in my head for a little while now.
Finally I have a new rig to try it out on.

I am about to leave town for a week, but this is as far as I have got so far.

This is a true weight minus panels and 4 aluminum upper link screws.
There will be no fudging numbers in here.

Yes.... I am going to run my cab backwards this time. (Let the cab backwards
Comments begin)

That's about it at the moment.

I'm leaving on a jet plane.

Right on Marc. Im stoked that YOURE stoked about the comp scene again. Cuuuuz that means more cool swag comin outta the Chaotic camp

Erik...can't say enough about these axles. After seein em in person, fondling em, tryin to stuff em into TSKs fanny pack (apparently there was no room because thats where he "stores his ballsack" ) talkin to Marc about em...talkin to Geo while hes building his...these just MIGHT be enough to convince me to lose the XRs. Nice work dude & thanks for your passion. Guys like you keep our little sport alive.

Nick & Marc...chassis is sick as always. Its been an honor to have a front row seat & witness the progression of the Chaotic chassis line. The Special even tho clouded in controversy was a well made, hard workin chassis. The Switch was a crazy step up & the Zero a step OVER. Now the Switch Smash? Well I dont have one but Im sure it'll be another huge advancement & killer addition to the Chaotic stable.

Nice work guys. Im excited to see how the whole package does. From chassis to axles...THIS will be one sick rig & Im sure a force to be reckoned with.

His fanny pack was not THAT small.

Dont tell anybody else but, it may be time to ditch those axles while they still have some value I see a dip in price coming.

I think Travis actually kept his kung fu slippers & Spam Lunchables in that thing but he swears otherwise.

Eh...dont need to sell the XRs. Maybe I'll bronze em & hang em next to my baby shoes. I crawled with THOSE too.

I'm back!!!

I have a ton on my plate right now, but I found a little spare time today to do some wrenching.

I got my front axle mostly done.
Just need to drill and tap the link mounts and servo mount.

This pic is missing the knuckle bearings.

I also had picked up some aluminum bodied scx10 shocks before I left town.

Today I took some time to build them.

I'm going to run pink springs all around.
Front shock oil is 35wt
Rear is 30wt

I have been struggling to build these shocks on my xr10 without an air Pocket that creates a bad spot in the stroke.
I also knew I would be fighting to make these springs stay on the shock body.

So I put a spacer underneath the spring cup to help limit the shock stroke and to also space the spring up.

This is the smoothest I have ever got a shock to travel.
So far I am happy with these shocks.

By the look of those knuckles your going with the 3 14mm bearings? You will not regret it. They are the tightest, smoothest I have ever felt on an Rc car. Simply awesome!

Yeah.
I was going to run axial gear, but wanted to try a non 8* setup.
I told Erik I wanted the best setup possible. And those 12mm bearings in the bully knuckles are constantly going bad on my super.

So we decided to do triple 14mm bearings.

I knew you would like it. Matches the CC logo colors. I'll buy if you build.

Don't you worry dad.
I've always got my big bores ready and waiting in my tool box.

Due toy lack of time, I have torn all my electronics out of my xr10 and am shipping them off to someone who does some killer electronics smash jobs.

This should allow me the time to spend on getting the truck to roller status.
