the kept it quiet build up untill now i have been using a friends (upandover) berg to compete with as i killed the losi again 4th time (its going sporty soon) and decided it was about time i built somthing. so this was my secret bugdet build which im only posting up now as its nearly finished and has been put through its paces at 1 of the uk nationals (we had 2 nationals?). i confused a few people the first time out with it as they werent sure what it was. this is what i was trying to achieve as i liked how my sons bj3 handled but with a bit more clearance http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...s/BJ4-Berg.jpg budget part list all aquired over a long time berg axles with lightend gears and machined rear tubes venom creeper front links and rod ends used through out home made 6mm top links and rear lower links (soon to be dlux) venom 55t motors (they were too cheap not to try) venom creeper wheels and weights (off the losi) venom short links (rear steering lock outs) venom wheel hexes front and cheap 5mm thick on rear rover tyres tekin escs x2 (couldnt go cheap on escs) hi ace servo (now a hi tec hs7950th borrowed off my sons creeper) alloy big bore shocks castle bec (off the losi) dlux servo mount dlux lightweight cross braces dlux big bore shock ends novak dig switch this is the center section http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums/userpics/1~10.jpg poor pic of the side rails http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums/userpics/2~12.jpg next 2 pics are of the rails and center together using some old bj3 braces http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums/userpics/3~10.jpg http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums/userpics/4~10.jpg |
Re: the kept it quiet build axles sprayed black to try and throw every one off, losi shocks are fitted for working the ride height and the links out . the green outline is me messing around with side panels. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...normal_5~8.jpg you can also see i have started on the front steering. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...normal_6~6.jpg dead towerpro servo fitted to make the steering links with. (same size as hi tec) http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...normal_7~6.jpg rear axle showing how i fitted the shocks upside down (dlux big bore shock ends) http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...normal_8~4.jpg started to solder the motor wires on also fitted the new big bores all round and started to fit the dlux cross braces in. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...normal_9~3.jpg i got to get some sleep now i will post more up tomorrow morning (work nights) |
It's a good start, keep up the great work |
Re: the kept it quiet build It's looking good.. post a video of 1st run... |
Re: the kept it quiet build thanks fellas. i do have some vids of it which i will post up at the end. all the shock holes are the same as the bj3. i have also cut some slots in the rails to try and lose some weight, the center section will be lightend at a later date it can lose loads. also drilled some holes in the side rails which line up whith the link holes so i can tighten the screws up the silver links are txt steering rods. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_10~7.jpg figuring out the front top link bends and making the servo steering link. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...rmal_11~10.jpg these finally arived after a seven week wait. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_12~7.jpg which meant i could get on making this. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_13~7.jpg i also covered the bec in some heatshrink so it would be hidden better. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_16~6.jpg i didnt have the heart to do a esc smash on them so i just fitted them as they are (the smash will happen much later) http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_15~5.jpg |
Re: the kept it quiet build finished front top links they are made from some home depo 6mm solid alloy rod and creeper rod ends. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_17~4.jpg http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_19~3.jpg http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_20~4.jpg esc tray fitted now the top links were finished. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_21~4.jpg escs all soldered up and not coming back out (just noticed when posting this pic i still havent fitted heatshrink over the front cap agh) http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_22~3.jpg http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_23~4.jpg |
Re: the kept it quiet build bad pic of a decased spektrum reciever and novak dig switch trying to figure out where this was going to be fitted was a right pain, http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_25~2.jpg losi shell fitted and roughly cut to shape. (it had to be a losi shell to keep up the deception for as long as possible) http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_26~2.jpg the long body posts are creeper ones and were cut down. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_26~2.jpg it was also around this time i learned the rear lower links werent up to the task now that it was all wired up and a freshly painted shell on it, so i had to make some more links they didnt come out the same as the txt versions slighty bigger bend but i fitted them anway. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_28~2.jpg thats it for another morning fellas |
Re: the kept it quiet build the lipo tray sorted from a piece of scrap, the servo link is just a bit of 3mm threaded rod (still the same now) and the bec is hiding behind the servo. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_30~3.jpg had to trim the body for the lipo to clear when the axle articulates. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_31~2.jpg plenty of ground clearance, the wheel base measured with the shocks compressed is 12.5" and when at normal ride height is less than 1/4" shorter. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_32~2.jpg you can see the reciever and dig switch sat between the middle section you also should be able to see the two bulges in the sides body to clear the rear shocks. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_33~2.jpg heres the flex shot that every one posts. http://www.ukrcrc.com/gallery/albums...ormal_34~2.jpg ready to run with body and battery it weighs over 5lb how much by i cant remember, its in bits right now waiting for some parts and also to have some excess material removed i would like to get it into the 4lb range which should be possible with the revised version. this can be bodied or bodiless, i put the losi shell on it to hide everything there is a cab ready for cutting out, did any one notice the little white spacers on the frame i just take the spacers out and the cab will be attached where they used to be. heres a video of the very first time i run it. (my run starts at 7:19 into the vid) this is when i found out the hi ace servo werent up to the task and the venom motors were cheap for a reason. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/jI28QEfd0ak?list=UU1s6YX7LYdYZV665KGpd3QQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> south wales rock crawlers 2013 open championship round 5 part 1 - YouTube |
