Default V3 advice

Hi this is my first MOA rig.
I have just put together a V3 tracer and need some advice concerning the electrics.
I will be using a Spektrum Dx4r pro radio (Need to register it to get the MOA mixing firmware) and will be using a high end Hitec servo.
I'm not sure what to do for the motors esc / esc's.

I have a pair of Novak ballistic 21T motors and a pair of Novak Crusher ESC's these were bought for other projects that still need finishing.

I bought a (cheap) new Novak M2 DIG and pair of 55T rock claws from a friend that abandoned the idea of a MOA.

I also have a pair of Tekin 55T motors and FX-R esc's

I am a bit spoiled for choice here and have little experience with electric RC as i normally run a pair of Losi 5t's and and a baja.
I would appreciate any advice on the best choice and any set up tips i could get.

There are some V3's that are for small higher speed motors. They have an extra gear set in the gear box and I think the distance between the mounting holes for the motor was 16 mm. So first check which one you got.

If you have the one for 540 motors, then I would go for Tekin motor and esc. Your 55T motors might be a bit slow as you can only (without modification) use a 11T pinion. However the 21T motors might be to quick so I would go with the 55t ones anyway.

Hi,
Thanks for the post.
I checked and I have the 540 gearboxes.
After doing a lot of reading including the advice that you posted I decided to order a pair of hand wound Tekin 35T's to go with the fxr's.
Thanks.
I got an 11t and a 12t pinion with the kit. Which one goes to the front and which to the rear?
Any more advice for set up of the electronics would be appreciated as this is my first MOA build and as I said in my post, I do no have much experience with electric RC.
Thanks again.

boater, the last time I checked they didn't have that software release for the r radio, only the S. I'm not sure if they even plan on releasing for the R radio. I talked with Horizon Hobby tech support directly about this a few months ago.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info.
That is bad news. the set already has 4ws. I thought they would want to stay competitive with the futaba sets.
there must be a way to make a custom mix for dual esc's even though I would not know where to start with this.
thanks.
I may look into getting a futaba 4ch set.

I would order a nice set of hand wound 30-35t arms for your tekin motors and use the fxrs. I would also sell that spektrum and buy a 4pl or 4pk.

Just took a look on the spektrum site and the instructions stae that the Spektrum Dx4r pro has MOA mixing functions.
So maybe I need to register the set and check for updates.

you need to register to get the update. They don't give it out for free and only to valid serial numbers.
