Default Dravpnir tries to build something Berg-ish from the scrap box

This will not be near the best, or even the nicest looking crawler, but perhaps it could atleast inspire someone

This is something I have been thinking about for awhile. I have lot of parts in my scrap box from old projects that I discontinued, or ideas I did not go any further with. All these parts has haunted me and finally it is time to put them to use.

After deciding to buy Dlux knuckles for my sporty I got the one of the two last pieces I needed, knuckles. Then I actually "cheated" a bit and ordered the last pieces I needed - 2 Berg V1 4th gears. It feels a bit overkill to use RCBros nice gears in this one, but I can atleast use them as spares if anything happens to the ones in my comp Berg.

Rear axle
* RCBros 4th gear and locker
* Nanda Pathfinder (more known as Exceed Mad Crawler) gearboxes with modified axle tubes to allow XR10 lockouts.
* Nada Pathfinder stock plastic/metal gears, except the locker and 4th gear
* Nanda Pathfinder hexes
* Wraith rear drive shafts with glued on aluminum adapters so they fit the Berg locker.
* XR10 plastic lockouts
* Integy 45T motor
* Carbon Fibre upper link from my first home made Berg

Front axle
* RCBros 4th gear and locker
* Nanda Pathfinder gearboxes with modified axle tubes to allow XR10 c-hubs.
* Nada Pathfinder stock plastic/metal gears, except the locker and 4th gear
* Nanda Pathfinder hexes
* Nanda Pathfinder servo mount. The posts on the axle are shortened so the servo sits as low as possible.
* XR10 universals with glued on aluminum adapters so they fit the Berg locker.
* XR10 plastic c-hubs
* VP Wraith knuckle with Hulksta CF arms
* Integy 45T motor

If I get the energy to manufacture, or happen to come over two 16 mm to 25 mm motor adapters I will exchange the Integy motors for some Holmes Hobbies 454 Puller motors.

Then last picture for tonight, the chassis

Very cool build. I never understood why the guys running the exceed cases didn't use the exceed tubes too. Thanks for showing one of the ways that it can be done!

Another great build from you!
The part the fits the shafts to the locker is full aluminum?

What chassis is that?

Thanks!
Yeah, the tubes are cheap and plenty of material in them, so they should be ok in strength and after making a small mounting piece is was easy to mount them in the lathe. I do not know if regular Berg drive shafts would fit the tubes as I modified them, but there is material in the tubes to make them shorter or longer so it could work.

The drive shaft adapter is made from aluminum. The orignal steel drive shafts go into the adpater almost 20 mm, so there is plenty of area for the glue.

The chassis is the Dahu for Berg V1 axles. It was designed by Energykarting here on rcc. I had to modify the Pathfinder bumper mount and make an 2 extra holes in the chassis to be able to mount it to the axles.

Same here, first time I saw it I knew I had to get one

Thanks and yeah almost
I did try the chassis out a while ago and at the same time tried those 28 pole pancake outrunners. Dont remember much about the chassis except I needed more front weight, but I remember I did not fancy the outrunners. So this time it will be old trusty brushed motors.

Looks like a fun setup Tobias.

What turn 454 motors are you planning on trying? I had run 16t slotted arm versions before and they were ok but seemed to be a bit too notchy on start up and had a bit too much clod stall. But I think my truck was closer to 5lbs back then.

Yes, I cannot wait to try it out again. I have mounted a pair of 13T Pullers on the axles the other day. If those do not work today I got home a pair of 16T that look to be in very nice condition. Regarding being notchy, then it might be a good practice for my cobalt powered confluxes I got on my comp Berg

I put the rig on the scale and without, esc's, reciever, bec, battery and knuckle weights it weights 1250 g (2.76 lb). I got somethings I want to do to lighten it up a bit more (really big and thick skid plate) so I should end up slightly over 1300 g (2.87 lb) without knuckle weights and perhaps 1500 g (3.31 lb) with weights?

This rig is killer Tobias! Can't wait to get some axle parts ordered, start building, and get behind the wheel of a 2.2 finally. Thanks for all the input about what parts are what, what mods need to done to make it all work, and the push in this direction. All the cheap re-purposed stock parts are right up my ally, and couldn't fit my budget any better.

do you really think the glue will hold the universals in place???
I think not,,maby with the integy motors but not with HH pullers...

Red Loctite or 648 should hold the parts more than effectively as long as the adapter sleeves were machined to a slight press fit in the first place. Look at how the LCC guys have been adapting XR/Wraith Unis to the the locker in their rigs. Only difference being that they use Ti adapters VS aluminum.

648 will work that's what's made for and worked for me.

Exactly. I've never used the stuff with RC parts but I have fixed small industrial gears to shafts with it. The stuff is no joke, and requires MASSIVE amounts of heat to let loose. Got a bottle sitting here waiting.

I start to reget helping you out with this Brian... now I got an itch to work on this rig a bit more...

I have done more to it since the last picture. Perhaps I can take some new pictures of it later tonight.

Yes, like the guys above have mentioned, I believe the glue will work, but I am more doubtful for my aluminum pieces. Titanium would be a much wiser choice, but I didn't have any Ti when I started this project.

I am however, tempted to convert the SDS CVD's I have for my old super axles to "normal" 2.2 shafts. Then the shafts will fit the locker without any adapter.

Hahaha...I can't wait. This thread actually prompted me to do a lot of research yesterday, which involved digging through piles of threads, pages and pages of parts, and pondering countless twisted ideas of my own for these axles. I can't wait to see this rig running, as well as other ideas you may have up your sleeve.

I gotta throw out a big thanks to you, Erik, and all the other guys on the board that tried diligently for quite some time to make these axles known! These axles are the exact solution for a barrier which used to separate me from the larger rigs, and sadly I missed it all at the time because I never bothered poking around over here.

Is the Dahu chassis still being made? That thing looks kickbutt. Can't wait to see a finished build.

Hit up 'energykarting' he has a new version out. It's made for Berg v3 axles but can be modded to fit v1.
