| Berg tracer v3 any good?
Thinking of buying a Berg tracer v3. Is it any good or is it a waste of money? I've been searching the forum and looks like the tracer v3 is not the most popular crawler. What's wrong with the tracer v3? And why should i stay away from it? |

Main reason to stay away is there's no aftermarket support. It makes getting replacement a lot harder then it needs to be. I've gont a set here that I'm working on. There's so many little issues with them. Fixed motor location, means you can't change pinion size You haven't got the room to fit the servo between tube and motor Massively oversize tubes/mounting brackets Personally I wouldn't waste my money on any. |

Do you want to compete? Or just have fun crawling around? I bought a Berg Tracer V3 just to get into MOA crawling. So far I really like it to play around with, and at friendly comp in my area one of the more experienced guys said it was pretty good. I would love to build a custom MOA crawler, but I know I would have to do ton's of research first. I also don't think the Tracer chassis is legal for serious competitions, but don't quote me. So if you want to give it a try go for it, but plan on buying/building something else if later if you get addicted. If you want to do some Comps, either find a used crawler someone else built or do some research and build your own. Just my two cents. |

I bought a used Berg v3 against all advice. I got it for a very good price, and it gives me the possibility to try out moa crawler. But its way to heavy for comp use. I think i could save a lot of weight by just changing the wheels. I am thinking of changing the chassis to a Dahu chassie. Any thoughts on that? Are the axels so heavy that a new chassis would not do me any good? |

I don't know much about that chassis, but If you can get some six bolt wheels from crawler innovations you will save some weight. They are glue on wheels not bead-locks, if that makes a difference. I'm also guessing you won't get to many replies to this thread because of the unpopularity of the Berg Tracer. I have wondered myself if any of the aftermarket mods will work with these axles. Like the lightened tubes for example. If you have access to a machine shop I'm sure you could do some of your own weight reduction. I want to figure out some knuckle weights for mine. |

there have a few people who have done a lot of mods on their v2 and v3 bergs, even seen delrin tubes one guy made, the tracer was a concept that did not become popular mostly because guys wanted light rigs for competing, the tracer chassis are not light and the axles compared to the v1s were overly heavy. I would have one in my collection, they are kinda cool, but I would not drive it too often hahahaha |

I agree with everything that has already been said, but If you decide to go this route drop me a Pm I have some axles and a bunch of spare parts that I could let go of.

I'm currently working on a set of tracer axles, there is a lot of material that can be removed fromt the gearboxes. Tubes don't have as much to machine down. They opened up the inside to remove material. I'll get the owner to start a build thread before to long. |

Do you have pictures of the lightened gear boxes? That sounds interesting.

All picture are with the owner. I don't have them anymore. I've also put a standard berg locker into the gearbox. So the axles will be using v1 berg axle parts. |
