Default a Berg Tracer V3 is now "The Skull"

Hi,

I recently bought a Berg Tracer V3, but I don't like EnRoute chassis, so I try to make another one. I spent many hours reading forums, looking at pictures, videos, and after that I began to work on my chassis. About 10 years ago, I bought a scale, but I didn't remember it needed so much time to spend on it

After 5 or 6 intermediate versions, it's like this:

nothing is definitive, I made about 3 or 4 other versions after it, I will show the latest one soon, when I'll receive missing parts.

To be continued...
CyberFox.

I FINALLY received the order placed there over 3 weeks, so I could work on my car.

The general architecture is now almost definitive, I have only a few things to change.
I will soon look for somebody could make carbon plates for me; In this regard, what is the practice in general to the thickness of the parts? I thought 3 mm for the base unit and 2 mm for the top element?

oh, and it looks like all the chassis have a name, so I'll call mine "the Skull"

now the photos:

There isn't anybody there ?

I received definitive chassis plates made by Speed26, made parts still missing, and completed my car.
I still have to install electronic and paint body panels.

We're here and we're looking.

It can be really tough to comment on home brew chassis, on v3 axles, without any questions posed where you may need advise.

Looking pretty good!

thank you

It's heavy, about 2,7 kg.
I will soon replace electronic with Holmes hobbies dual BR, berg link with home made aluminium links and traxxas rod ends, and metal lested wheels with plastic wheels, It should be maximum 2,4 kg after that.

the Skull is now equipped with lighter plastic wheels, homemade links replace the EnRoute links, and the rear shocks are reversed.
It's now 2,370 kg, lighter than before

from the pictures, it looks like the center of weight is very biased to the front.
you might not need to add knuckle weights.

have you determined where the balance point is?

little news on my crawler:
I bought a compact double esc, so I used freed space to create a new battery location on the chassis.

I made a new part for my Skull: an aluminium skid with its fixing tubes, to replace the one in delrin.
It saves me 20 grams.

Hi,

While waiting for the final carbon parts to be made, here is a small preview of the second version of my crawler, which will now be called the skulfox, with new axles

After several intermediate versions, I believe I hold the final version of the second generation of my chassis
Now I have to outsource manufacturing this pair of parts in carbon

That's it, I got the final carbon parts made by Speed26.
I have mounted them and will soon be able to test this in the rocks, with the new wheels that should arrive tomorrow or early next week

Now it is mounted with new high level wheels.
1840 grams ready to roll, battery included!
when I'll wheight the front wheels, it will be barely 2 kg

Now I'll go for a run in the garden, to try it

After the first run in the rocks, a few defects appeared on my crawler, mainly a limited direction angle and lack of weight on the front (but I had just not decided what to choose for the weights).
I have now corrected the two defects, to be validated on a next run.

For the direction angle, I turned the flares by putting the small Axial aluminum parts as a support for the steering rod. The link provided by dlux with the axles being too short, I made one with threaded rod dressed in a metal tube. And I cut the link supports originally used, which now find themselves inwards and act as toe.

For the weights, blue monkey not responding to my mail and rcbros asking 32 usd port for 30 usd of merchandise holding largely in a bubble letter (!), I made it myself, with a homemade support in Aluminium and the EnRoute weights that I had in stock (I don't know in what matter they are made, but super SUPER hard !!!). It is very far from being as clean as if it had been drawn with 3d software then cut and drilled with a CNC, but it has the advantage of being free.
