Unless some people go to Oakes that I don't know about, I'm gonna say I probably have more experience at there than anyone else. All the past Tri State local events, big events, weekend GTGs, setting up courses so I could win, etc.[/brag]

The rocks there can be so fine and course sandpaper like at times that anything will hook up hard, like a Proline Masher or Moab or Losi Rock Claw. Then Panther Cougars came out, and we termed "Too much traction". Then stiffer foams made the difference, then the HB Rover came out, then the Sedona, then the Losi pins, et al.

You'll find a few slippery rocks, but most are high grip. Dust coverage will depend on the last time it rained. Hope for a light rain the night before. If the rocks were wet, it really didn't make a difference.

It is of my opinion that you can probably run any currently competitive tire there and not be able to use bad or wrong tire choice as an excuse for not winning.

Personally, I'd go for a pin tire missing some pins so they can hook a ledge if they need. And I wouldn't bring worn out pins, cause they'll be totally gone before you know it. And you may want to have some spare stiffer foams at your disposal, just in case.

Hi Steve. Feels weird. I like Oakes Park a lot. Great place to run, and it's alway fun.
