So a week ago I smoked my motor. No biggie I bought an integy and different pinion to keep the heat down. Installed it ran it for a 10 mins in my driveway to verify it works. Fast forward to yesterday, I picked up a CC BEC. Installed it as per the instructions on the sheet and the hobby shop mechanic. Turned the truck on and the servo goes nuts. I turned it off. Crap!:x

Can a BEC hurt my electronics by simply wiring it up?

Yes I am running a high torque servo and lights that's why I got a BEC.

Ok started to tinker with it to figure out why I don't have any action out of the truck and flashing red led from the esc. I tried another known good esc like the exact one I have. I got steering to work but no throttle. Swapped out another known good receiver and steering and throttle work. So my receiver's throttle band is dead. It will not take programming at all. So I need a receiver.

Has anyone experienced this?

How is axial with warranty? I have the receipts.

Is upgrading the receiver worth it to a traxxas receiver so I can use the radio from the SCT truck with my crawler? The traxxas radio has 10 vehicle memory's.

Sorry for the long read but I am just seeing if anyone else experienced problems like this.

Well, I had to come up with a name worthy of a man cave project - am I right?!?! I think every name needs to have macho words in them!

Since I have WAY too many vehicles, I decided to turn one of them into a crawler and since the Ridgecrest is close already, I may as well use that one. So, after talking about it witht he wife, I walked into the garage to see one of my Ridgecrests had spontaneously combusted on the work bench - a humble and worthy volunteer!

With a VERY generic mental image and a list of parts on order, I waited to see what would show up first and when.....
Fastback II chassis was first up, decided to upgrade most of the included hardware to something more my flavor....ok, its just standard black screws and not the stainless - give me a break, I think it looks better!
Once I FINALLY figured out how this dang thing when together, more "Man Chocolate arrived....MMMMMMMMM!!!!!

I am going to use VP steering intead of the STRC links so I decided to change the wheel hubs to VP as well. The CVDs are a nice upgrade and I made the drive shafts solid using a 6mm bolt from Lowes.

I really like the way this turned out, we'll see if it works with the VP steering. Not sure what battery I am going to use up here but I do know it needs to be small

I recently picked up a ridgecrest for my son's first rc, still a few months before he'll be able to use it so it will be my/wife's toy until then. My plans are to bulletproof the drivetrain and run it mostly on the trails and some rocks. I've already done the basics like flipping link mounts, rebuilding shocks, moved battery, trimmed tires, etc.

Which truck bodies will fit on it nicely? I have seen a couple pickups fit the wheelbase pretty well, and I'm thinking dingo flares to help widen it a little. Maybe a Dingo body trimmed out like a rock buggy? Just looking for any suggestions or ideas, Thanks!

I made a spare tire mount for my Ridge Crest body, that I'm going to put on my SCX10 long wheel based, It looks cool, might hang up, I might run it anyway. I used the spare tire mount from the honcho bed, it has the right angle cause the back of the Crests bumper is angled, I turned it so the bolt was close to 90 as I could get it, by putting washers under the two lower legs and none under the top leg of the tire mount, and when put on body it comes almost 90' degrees flat. I think it looks cool for being scratch built with a Dremel and 2 mm screws.

Ok so Im starting this build with my ridgecrest, It's my first rc crawler. A few of the guys in my offroading team have them and got me hooked! So about 2 months ago I picked one up. I've decided I wanted to build it like a scaler but Im not as big of a fan of trailing and due to the WIDE axles I decided I was going to try and make it a scale truggy.

Heres some pictures from when I got it.

First real time using it other than around my garage to get a feel for it. And the c hub screws loosened up but it didn't brake the knuckle or even lose any hardware, it was to be expected that it would happen.

well figure everyone else has builds where they put tons of money into making this car better... but none of them have helped me that much. my car is mostly still stock but is a huge improvement over how it comes stock. so anyone with a stock ridgecrest looking for a good deal more performance but not an expensive pro style rig here ya go.

ok first thing I did was flip the battery tray to the front, this cost about 5 bucks for a servo extension cable. pretty noticeable difference.

next I flipped the shock/linkage mount on the axle, this lowered the stance a good bit and it seamed to be helping.

around this time I also replaced the stock 20t motor with a 27t axial motor. I did this more to slow the car down then wanting better crawling performance, but it might have helped. the 20t motor was just fast enough that I felt when the kids were playing with it they might hit a boulder or deck support or table leg and break something (before I realized just how hard it was to break this car). new speed is just fast enough to chase the kids but just slow enough for them to get away from it.

next thing I did was trim the support from the middle of the battery tray so that the tray could sit in the higher set of holes. the brace I trimmed out would hit the gear guard in front of the motor and transmission. the battery sits at an angle now and I used some velcro on the battery and the front of the tray to help keep the battery and a peace of foam tape on the cover to asorb some of the shock if any from the battery when bashing (use a big old heavy 5000 mah battery at that point) in.

at this point the car crawled much better then factory, it could get up a piled rock slope in a few places where stock it would flip at every approach.

next was some used tires / beadlocks / weights off the forums here. I got a set of used superswampers for 20 bucks then new axial beadlocks from an xr10 kit with 4 weight rings and 8 weights for the rings for 20 bucks(the rings themselfs were 10 bucks a pop at the local shop). I spent around 30-35 on memory foam at the local hobby shop and all of this made a huge difference and was well worth the 70-80 bucks it cost me. rear tires are just the foam front tires are rings and foam, no extra weight. that slope that I found 2 paths up became an easy crawl from almost any angle at almost any spot (is still a place or two that will flip the car)

next I swapped out the dogbone steering with the axial universal ones. big improvement in steering. but at 50 bucks a fairly expensive upgrade (atleast to me). though the extra steering is usefull for chasing the kids.

next was I swapped out the old heavy 5000 mah battery for a 4000 mah lipo. huge difference in weight and mush improved performance both crawling and bashing. alittle more speed and a fraction of the weight up high. also the car was pretty nose heavy with the older battery, the new one helped a good deal. spent round 40 bucks on that. had the shop switch my car out to a traxxas battery connector. the swapped connection on the car and some adapters for my charger cost round 15 bucks total.

rebuild the shocks with 10 weight oil but I've not really noticed any difference in it. I did this because after about 8-10 hours of hard bashing over the weekend the stock shocks had lost a good deal of oil. also lost a screw, got a screw kit for the ridgecrest for 30 bucks and am slowly swapping out the self tapping screws to the better screws that came with the kit.

next thing I did was with the battery tray again, I noticed with the upper links would touch the lower hole tabs on the battery tray, I took my dremmel to them, cut em off then grind them flush and cleaned up the snipped parts from earlier. looks much cleaner now and hard to really see that it wasn't made that way. that extra little bit seamed to have a good bit of effect on the car.

next I got another battery, one just for crawling. I lives the long lives of the other batterys for general use and bashing but everyone says less weight high is better. this one is a small 2200 mah 25c lipo spent round 35 bucks on it. there is a noticeable difference in the power output from the 20c to the 25c also went from around 8.5 oz to 4.2 oz in weight. in playing with it the front end might be alittle light, that or I'm so used to a heavy front end I'll need to adjust how I drive it. there were a few times the back wheel would get stuck in a hole and torque the car baskwards. thinking maybe 2 weights added to each of the front wheels might help keep the front end down. am weary about weighting the tires to much with the stock servo and driveshafts.

so I have about $130(or 160 if ya count the screw kit) in non battery upgrades into this thing and a huge improvement from stock, and I could make due with out the 50 universals in the axle's if I wanted to. if your going to crawl I'd recommend a smaller light weight lipo, if your going to crawl and bash the bigger 4000mah lipo works good too. only upgrade I can see it "needing" at this point would be new tires, the used ones I got for 20 are fairly worn but they do work great, I'm not sure if there would be a noticeable difference from new tires. I'd take pictures but looking at it its hard to see that its not stock.

i'll try and get some pictures of the batterytray atleast, after I found out it was only 12 or 16 bucks to get a new battery tray I didn't hesitate to cut it the way I wanted.
