I have the TB01 and am getting my parts together to build it out. It came with the kit 1.9 wheels.

I want to know what options are available for tires and wheels. I know about the Tamiya rally blocks. I will probably get 2 sets to start, one for off road and one for asphalt.

Any recommendations? And please feel free to point me in a direction to search. 8)

I PM'ed the guy 2mins after he posted it telling him I'd buy it. I acted fast because I knew it wouldn't be available for very long. I've had 2 of these in the past and I regret selling both of them. This one is not going anywhere! It comes with upper and under chassis covers! I got it for a GREAT price too, considering it's a hard to find chassis and this one has never been ran and includes everything.

Here are the pics of it. I should have it by the end of the week.

Hey everyone im new to the forum and ive been looking up and it for a while now and have noticed that a few members have built some XV-01 kits. I myself have been looking at the kits for a while now and i finally picked one up this week. My main focus of this thread is to discuss the chassis and the long term test/use of the vehicle, i will update it periodically. I know that many want to buy this kit, but most have concerns since its rather new so consider this thread a source for review.

I am going to be building the kit to Tamiya spec, i have built at least 4 Tamiya kits before and they have all gone together so simply and straight forwards. I have never built a belt-driven touring car before so im rather excited.

I just bought the base kit, the one that comes with the 2009 Subaru WRX STI body set and Johnson motor. I have heard that using the kit supplied motor yields incredible 'scale' speed results, but im going to take the brushless route.

For that matter i am installing a Castle Creations Sidewinder 3 ESC, as well as a NeuCastle 4600kv 4 pole motor.

Other electronics:

HPI MG SB-5 Servo (had this one laying around so figured why not)
FlySky GTB 2.4GHz Transmitter (these Tx and Rx setups are not that appreciated in the RC world, however for simple bashing outside race use, i find them to be perfect and economic)
7.4v 2s lipo 40C

The Hop-Ups that i feel are necessary for the kit are as follows ( i have ordered them all, just waitng for arrival):

Tamiya Reinforced Drive Belt No. 54448 (i feel this to be needed for a brushless setup, longterm of course, but im more than sure the stock ones hold up just fine)
Tamiya Slipper Clutch No. 54378
Tamiya Differential Cross Shaft (kit supplied ones are made of resin) No. 54311
Tamiya On Road Spring Set No. 49382 (had these laying around)
I also plan to run some sort of cooling fan within the ESC/receiver housing (probably a 3Racing one)

As for the body set, the final colour is still an issue because i have way too many ideas going on in my head, so ill just save the final unveiling when it is painted and mounted.

Any useful criticisms will go very much appreciated, as well as any tips that you all may have, enjoy! "thumbsup"

In case anyone has been looking at one of these either as a rally car or just to pick up a mini, figured I'd let you all know they are well worth it. Essentially a longer wheelbase mini 8ight, the thing comes completely ready to go. Decent speed with the supplied nimh, and just rediculous with a 2s. Ill post some pics when I get a chance, but as someone who has been in the hobby for the past 15 years, and prefers kits and 10th scale to rtr's and minis, I was pretty impressed. I also have a traxxas 1/16th rally vxl and this thing performs much better. Also, if anyone picks up the kemora or kalahari, make sure to empty the stock shock water and put in some decent oil to notice a much improved ride.

Let's fix this beast!

New steering parts.

New front shock tower.

New rear arms, knuckles, and shock tower.

Back in business!

Front in business!

I can't use my Lancia Delta body anymore if I want to use this whole bumper, which I obviously need to, so I threw on my ancient HPI Lexus beater body. I'm ordering a Subaru body next week, but this will do for now.

I'll post a run vid when I borrow my friend's camera sometime this month.
Stay Blessed!

For the longest I hated ordering from AsiaTees since they are based out of HK and I have little to no patience lol. Unfortunately almost all of my Tamiya stuff I order from them because they have the best selection and price.

Well I've been hunting down a 1/10 190mm KB Gymkhana DC Shoes body for my DF-03Ra while now and I know I can do it with overlays and decals that are readily available off eBay but I know I wouldn't want to drive it once I finish the body.

Well looking around AsiaTees.com I actually found one finished with official licensed logos, emblems, and sponsors. The only thing it does not have are mirrors and the rear license plate. No biggie...plus they're throwing in a free light kit and it has light buckets f/r already installed. You just have to drill to fit unlike Tamiya body sets.

Comparing my two Subaru Pete Solberg Monte Carlo WRC bodies, the Tamiya body is a bit thicker (roughly 5%). Also the Tamiya light buckets ABS plastic chrome offering a brighter shine versus the AsiaTees buckets which are like HPI's made out of lexan.

Upside is they throw in a free Boom Racing LED set. So for those of you like me who spend at least 3 days painting and detailing a perfect 1:1 replica rally car body and are tired of doing so this is a great option!

$59.85 + $8.00 shipping = $67.85
Ordered May 6 and arrived May 14. 1 WEEK!!! WOW!!
I just paid standard shipping too.

Onto the pics on comparisons:
This one shows the difference in thickness. The body with the 5mm LED marking is a Tamiya shell.
It says it's a Tamiya, but it didnt come with a Tamiya label, so maybe it's a no-name brand?
Anyway, does anyone have a picture of a finished one? I want to use it for reference.

My daughter picked out all the colors and helped me flick paint on the body. After that I put the window decals on and let her do the rest.

I put a 50 turn motor in, 6 cell NIMH and a rally Legends ESC. Just enough to make it move.

And here is the car before she destroys it. :ror:
