Ever since I took my 2.2 avalanche apart to build this:

Ive wanted to build another 2.2 rig. The 1.9 rigs are fun, but there is nothing like a 2.2. Around thanksgiving I bought a wraith kit. At first I was just going to build it, toss a brushless system in it and peel out. Then I started thinking about a 1:6 scale body. I had a yukon awhile back that I ended up selling before I built it. So the hunt was on for a body. As much as it pains me to build a ford, the raptor seemed to fit the build better then the yukon body. I ended up getting a body off of ebay. I also wanted to build the chassis out of aluminum. Trying to keep it light but still have some beef.
So I started building a chassis/cage.

To build this how I was dreaming it up, I needed to cut a few things out.

Then it was time for more tube

And more tube

And this is where I am currently

More to come.

Build specs as of now.
Wraith axles
Wraith tranny
Savox Steering servo on the axle (just to keep it simple)
Wraith tires on rockstars (cuz I had them)
Tekin brushless setup
Full Aluminum chassis

Hi

I was in the progress of transforming a 1/6 New Bright Jeep Wrangler into a crawler, when I found this:

BC4x4.COM four wheel drive, 4x4, offroad and fourwheeling site.

Since I liked the shape and color and since I still had a second body which was heavily used and scratched lying around, I decided to give it a go.

I had a lot of cutting, cleaning, filling and sanding to do...

I needed a new rollcage, but because I wasn't able to bend metal tube of 10 mm diameter, I went to the local DIY store and found this...

... which became this:

Unfortunately I didn't think about taking pictures of the building phase back then, so here are the first results (front- and rear bumpers as well as side skits are still to be made):

I know, it's not 100% like the original but that was what I could make out of the NB body without an even greater effort than it had already been... :ror:

The color I used was the original Jeep color called "Orange Crush".

And since I had a little paint left and had just finished my 1/6 Quad based on a 1/18 Kulak Crawler which later shall be pulled by the Jeep on a trailer, I quickly made this:

Hope, you like it... 8)

As you can probably see, he used Clodbuster axles.
Basically, I liked it, but wanted to change the color and make a few modifications to the chassis, e.g. lower it alltogether to give it a more scaly look.

The basic idea was to make a civilian version out of it, but during the build I decided otherwise and stick to the desert type.

Actually, I hadn't expected such a huge box...

At the same time I was able to get a chassis from ebay UK that had been built to suit a similar project.
But after it arrived, I was totally shocked about the terrible way it had been made. Also, it broke during transport.

The frame was made from some undefinable material the had the characteristics of wood..., the leaf springs were made from circuit board material, the rest - see for yourself...
Fortunately I was able to negotiate a reduction due to the damage, so the money was well spent for the Bruiser axles, motor, etc. which I could all use for my project.

So I did.

Since this would become a scaler which wouldn't be used in rough terrain I wanted to stick to the kit frame which would later be strenghened a little.
I replaced the leaf springs with some from the original bruiser - which are a little too short, but I think it's barely noticable - and also used the wheels that came with the chassis and werde already modified to fit to the axles. Also, they werent as "wobbly" as those from the Dragon kit.
The rest was easy play and a first testrun was very satisfying... :)

to be continued...

Hi

I was wondering why most of the 1/6 Willys used to be converted to RC are - next to those from Dragon - the ones made by Hasbro (GI Joe) and hardly ever those made by 21st Century Toys.

I was able to get one of those (21st) here in Europe (not too easy a task...) and I'm amazed by the great detail it has (e.g. real cloth seats, cloth top, etc.) as opposed to the basic appearance of a G joe Version.

So can you tell me, what the reason for that might be?
I picked up the measurements for a 1:1 frame and used that to make a scale frame
I need to braze the rear crossmember on, and shorten the front of the frame still. I need to figure out the electronics and driveshafts as well.
