traxxas vxl-3 sucks

yep i will never buy another traxxas product again. just got a new vxl-3 esc because my last one started smoking after the last gtg. i just rebuild my motor, and got my esc replaced and charged my 11.1 up. drove my truck for 5 mins and it started shuttering then stopped moving. i removed the body because i smelled something smoking and what do u know the brand new vxl-3 system was smoking like crazy. so if my checks from work pan out right i hope ill make it on the 27th. im goin castle 7700 kv and im goin for broke lol my trailers comming along good to. its so long so it can haul 2 trucks

That's why I run the vxl motor only, heard too many problems about the vxl esc. I stick to castle for my esc's. Hope you have your truck running by then.

7700 kv is a bit of a hot motor for a 4x4 scaler, it is much better suited in a 2lb touring car. I do not see it doing well in that. The Castle 4600 is even pushing it a bit IMO. I'd look for motors in the 3000-3500KV range or lower for 11.1v in a scaler. If it is in the tow rig, not the trailer rig maybe even lower for the torque.

I love Castle ESC's, but their motors are not a great choice long term for a crawler.

Nice looking rig though "thumbsup"

Dang sorry to hear that but i would stick with the velenion motor it makes plenty of power and as long as you keep up on the bearings it will last for while. I also had to get a new esc due to the last gtg so i got the sidewinder and cant wait to get it programed. Also from the last gtg i learned that the trailer i made didnt have enough ground clearance and yours looks to be even lower then mine was so you might want to raise it up if you planning on taking it off road....hope to see you there

X2 My dad had a 4600KV combo and it did great for wheelspeed but for overall performance that motor isn't worth the cost and not that impressive for our type of trucks.
