Ocala Area Crawlers

I am posting this based off of the CFLCC thread~ I know there are a fair number of guys that go to the newred hobbies stuff, I am NOT interested in competing- I have a 1:10 bronco build that is a year in the making- to the best of my ability it is the most scale bronco in existence, and just like my 1:1 that I am modeling iot after it is NOT for wheeling (some may disapprove :flipoff:)

But I digress- I work in Gainesville, and there are a TON of cool spots to go drive our mini scale trucks at. however just south of Ocala there is a KILLER spot that i have not heard mentioned. I have been Mountain Biking on the Greenway property for almost 20 years and the limerock pits there are PERFECT for putting our scale trucks to the test. it is located off of us441 between Ocala and Belleview just before the road splits (there is a sheriff sub-station there) the Vortex pit is the easiest place to get to unless you want to walk quite a ways. I have seen some RC trucks out there, but n o crawlers-

just wanted to throw this out there- there is a CLOSE very cool place to play that is overlooked. I know several trails I will walk when I get my trail rig going-

Re: Ocala Area Crawlers

Nice Idea but last time I was there with my scaler I was told that I can not be on there trail for the safety of the riders and that I need to leave, reason for this is that there are place's for every one and this place was build for mount biking not RC and that is a big reason why we do what we do a NEWRED Hobbies is the lac off area's we can run as a group and not get kick out....

the bike trail's would be awesome but for the safety of the riders and us as scaler they don't want us out there
also on that note there are a ton of awesome place's in Ocala that are over looked by some but most of us have been doing this for 10years or more and have been to all these place's and have been asked to leave after time and as are group got bigger...

yoda@4x4 12-23-2013 03:08 PM

Re: Ocala Area Crawlers

We have tried to run in the forest and local parks and many other place's and It work's if you have a very small group but when you have 15 or 20 people show up it does not work and we draw attention and end up getting kicked out that's why we as a GROUP FSTR start holding events at newreds based off of G6/TTC/Scale challenges and other rc events so you can come and run and have fun with friends family and others and meet new people with in the scale rc community.

Re: Ocala Area Crawlers

Yep there's nothing like driving an hour to go play with an rc truck just to find out you can't be there and are asked to leave....

On a side note the place does look awesome and would be fun if people were allowed to go without any problems

I seen something on the barbarian scaleplex fb group from April this year saying there is now a tiny truck trail at the vortex trail. I don't have fb so I'm not able to get anymore information, but I'm right down the road from there. I'm new to the hobby & ready to run with some locals. Post any info you get on this. Have a great day!

I know this is a old thread but just got a 1/10 crawler and was told they made a RC crawler track out at Vortex. I went to check it out and it’s really nice. If anyone want to meet up and try it out let me know. Park at vortex and walk over the foot bridge. Head all the way to the back and it’s on the left behind the Porto o potty.

Awesome bro! I like going out there. Endless exploring. Keep up on here too. So I know what's going on. Will be doing some night runs out there soon now that daylight savings ended and it's getting cooler. You have rock lights?

No rock lights yet. I need to get in one of these comps just for fun. The night run was the creepy crawler event a few weeks back. I usually just go in the mornings.

As soon as I get some memory cleared on my phone I will be shooting a video for my DIY rock lights. Can build a set for under $20. Are you around the Ocala area? I usually like going early morning, but lately I've only had one day off a week and that's family day. So I haven't been able to go. What rig are you running?

I’m in lake county. I’m running my honcho, my UMG10 and capra at the moment. I might go again to scale mountain this weekend. We’ll see. Instagram #ekpaulyrc.

Right on. I'm in Summerfield about 3 mins from Scale Mountain. I have a Trx-4 and OG Scx10 Dingo. Both crawl like goats. How you liking that Capra? I'm very interested in one, but rather put any funds I get into my current rigs. I don't get to go crawl as often as I'd like but get to go once a month or so. Need to get together and go crawl something

Awesome rigs! Yeah definitely shout out when you’re going to head out there. I want to get into making my own cages and bumpers etc. Maybe you can give me some pointers. The capra is fun for sure, i had a hard time getting it to make some lines that my other trucks make. I’m going to try and not spend a bunch of money on it, just try and tune the suspension and tweak it to get it to be an awesome crawler.

Thanks! I enjoy messing with them. Cage building is very enjoyable to me. I plan on building more. That was the first for me. I built the bumper on my Trx. I've always been big into fabrication. I'm always down to help you get one going. Suspension tuning can make a world of difference. Good tires and foams are worth every penny. Those rigs look to be very capable. I'm trying to fit a Santos run into my schedule in the next few weeks. Would you be down for sunrise crawling? I might be able to slip out early one Sunday.

I plan on coming over that way one day after the new year. It's hard for me to drive far to go crawl since I'm limited on crawl time and having 2 awesome places within 10 mins of my house makes it even harder. I do wanna come check it out for sure tho. It's looking like a fun course. "thumbsup"

We made good and did wonders with what was donated last year and we had left over from the old course. But now we are in uncharted land and we have BIG visions for the home stretch.

And we have the option to add another 1/4 acre to the challenge course as well.

SCRAWLERZ is going for it. With the help of others... we will meet our goal.

I don't know if they would donate them but the company ciraco underground does allot of work in the villages. They are always hauling dump trucks full of rock (Florida field stone) to their yard. You might give them a call. The guy I talked to a few months back said their yard had a huge pile sitting there. I would try calling some site companies in your area. They might have trucks going right by there with rock and if they do dump them there they won't have to pay a dump fee. It's worth a shot.
