Default My FOFF with the SCX10 Axial - Need more power !

Hi guys !

I decided to build my own FOFF. For this project, I've started the building with the SCX10. IMO it was the best choice because of the lower price compared to the "Wraith".

Because I didnt' know what's number of turns I will need, I bought a 19x2 turns motor to discover later it's not enough :

I put the battery near from the front end, to help the weight distribution :

A M-Troniks waterproof ESC, it accept 12 turns motor maximum :

Panther tyres and beadlock plastic wheels :

And a Parma Chevy Panel '40 lexan body I've already painted two or three years ago. Just have to add some stickers :

Here is my video from a test on last sunday :

It's clear, I need more power than that ! But I want to use brushed motor. But let me show you what my FOFF looks like after this training session.

So I decided to change the gear ratio on the axles :

And when I disassemble the axle, look what I saw :

Just a few sand mixed with the grease. It's great isn't it ?
As the motor got some troubles in the end of this offroad test because too much dust and sand inside it. So it couldn't work at all ! Now it's ok after I've cleaned it but it was tough.

Nowaday, I replace the motor with a 15x2 turns and a 21 teeth pinion motor. It's a little bit faster but not enough I think. If I replace the Axial tranny with a Traxxas Stampede, do you think the gear ratio could be near from 1:1 ? Or may I have to change the spur gear, but I don't know which one ?

Well, Replacing the axial trans is not you speed issue ! You need to change the motor and you power supply. If you are really looking to run a brushed motor you need a 7t Puller motor and get a Lipo battery. also change your spur gear and motor pinion gears.Do a little more reading and you will find a lot of information on how to make real power.
Honestly, if you want really want to go fast you need a brushless Traxxas VXL BL System.

One other thing you need to plug off those holes in the differentials to avoid the mess in your axles.

Thats very commor with the scx10. Ive had to replace axle bearing already. If you want power and speed, get a xl-5 and a titan 12 turn and run a lipo. waterproof...brushed...powerful. if you want even more torque, run a summit motor if it will fit.

X2, the trans is not your issue, your better off with a brushless system and some lipo, nimh make everything too heavy

nice body though

Hi guys !

Thanks for your answers&comments.

Ok, I should receive some Lipo batteries this week, will try it.

But after doing some research on the forum, I found two spur gears that should fit on the Axial tranny. Which one should I use ?

The Team Associated Nitro TC3 52/54 teeth spur gear (#ASC2265/#ASC2266) ?

Or the Traxxas Slash 52 teeth spur gear (#TRA6842/#TRA6843) ?

Hey Tony
The most common motor in an Axial Foff is the 5700kv on 2s
Don't forget to replace the diff outdrives with the solid ones

I used a 54T/22T on my Midgard Foff with a 3500kv and VXL gearbox

Thanks SnoopMaxx for your advises !

But why should I replace the diff outdrives ? They could be broken after a run ?

That's why you should change the standard hollow outdrives for the solid ones

In a normal crawler the hollow outdrives are strong enough, but not with the amount of power we use in R/C Formula Offroad
