| Gearing question.
I have a redcat vortex that I rarely run and was thinking of lengthening the wheelbase and slapping paddles on it. For those who don't know, it's 1/10 4wd independent suspension buggy chassis, brushless. The driveline is a direct drive off a center driveshaft, no transmission. The diffs are the same ratio as an HPI MT2 or wheely king. My main question is; will I need to put a transmission in this, like an axial or pede? Or if the stock gearing is fine, does anyone know where to get a 48p spur to fit it? It's got a metric 48, and I've read that a tamiya TT01 spur fits but that's also metric 48. Here's a pic of mine to better explain. |

D oyou have a picture of the spur gear unmounted? Also, you don't need a transmission, but you do need to know the final drive ratio at the transfer cases, as there is some gera reduction in there. you'd just adjust your gear ratio with sour and pinion selections. That said, being it's a brushless "racing style" buggy, the gearing is probably pretty darn close to what you would want for an FOFF. |

The spur is a 64T, and it came with a 23T pinion. That's one reason I would want to switch to 48pitch, I have plenty of pinions. I don't have a shot of the spur but might take the rig apart and stretch the chassis, I can pull the spur off then. The diff is 38/13, so that's a final ratio of 8.13 right? If I ran a 12T pinion it would bump the ratio up to 15.5.
