Version 2. well although happy with my old foff truck, I am keen to improve it. so ordered a few parts and will use the transmission from the old truck so far parts wise i have Wraith axles ST Racing Hubs, Knuckles, rear lockouts and upper link mounts. Shock mounts are on the way as i forgot to order them :oops: all in gunmetal. 8) Mamba Max pro which i got unused and cheap off Ebay Revo rod ends #5347 still have to get some aluminum bar for links the chassis will be 5mm aluminium plate, but my prototype will be in 5mm plastic which i got from a sign making workshop where i work some photos. nice chassis huh? the skid plate is an old chopping board. the slot is the handle, nothing important, so dont get excited about it :) http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/t.../IMG_19781.jpg http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/t.../IMG_19791.jpg http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/t.../IMG_19801.jpg the plan is to have as wide a skid plate as possible, somewhere around 120mm between the rails which will give plenty of room for motor and battery back one day with more interesting developments "thumbsup" |
Re: Version 2. Right on M1tch, Great collection of parts you have. And if that is your first try at a chassis you are looking really good my friend. I have purchased some of the STRC products for my soon to be Wraith build. I am very impressed with the quality and fit of the products. |

You know me, I like the home brewed parts the best, any body can buy some mass produced product and bolt it together and call it a build, but it's custom stuff that comes from our minds and hands that makes this forum interesting. I'll be tuned into your progress. |

Yeah, the STRC stuff is real nice. i have a few parts on the old truck. the chassis may look as if its the same front and rear, but there is a shorter front end and the ability to move the skid plate forwards or back a few millimetres. I'm hoping i can figure out some kind of chassis mounted steering servo. with the 120mm wide space i should be able to get the battery down beside the transmission the skid plate will be from some 12mm thick delrin, but instead of being flat will taper off to each side. the theory is that instead of sitting on an obstruction it will tilt one way or another. another point is if i get the geometry sorted on this truck and am happy with it, i can think about building (or getting built) a tube chassis. that would be my ultimate aim |

Re: Version 2. i have worked out link lengths and been playing around with the position of the transmission, as im trying to get weight forward, but battery down beside the transmission for low CoG. i might be able to make up the links tomorrow. upper links will be a kind of 's' shape, while lower links will be straight. also as the wraith axles have camber built into the hubs i cant fit them into my jig. have thought of an idea though so work will progress this week. the chassis might alter shape, but not a great deal, skid plate may be longer. it might also be level with the bottom of the diff housings I'm always thinking up new ideas as I'm working on it 8) |

Re: Version 2. sorry, I just haven't had time to do much recently. it's still as i left it. hope to get going again soon. i want the motor to the side so it helps balance the battery weight. lower links are made, just have to make the uppers. after that find a way to chassis mount the steering servo. battery hopefully will be a 3s, but still not sure of size, hope to be about 2200mah maybe more. thats why the skid is so long |

Re: Version 2. Looks fantastic but I would not run that much angle on the driveshafts. Use the first picture, the one with the motor to the outside, but rotate the trans so it mounts to the sideplate rather than the bottom skid. That should move the trans over so your axles are straighter and give you more room on the skid. Only downside is the motor gets a little higher but with the battery down low it shouldn't affect things much. |
