Can I ask why you guys have chosen to make your own tires with all the available paddle choices these days? I noticed that most paddles measure out in the 4-4.5" range mounted, whereas there could be a little more height to be had when using a shaved standard 2.2 with Panther paddles glued on. Am I on the right path here?

Yes, you are correct. The height is one reason. Why don't use 2.8" Sand Paws then? Don't like the wideness of those. Too wide for our tight courses. Other reason is that with, for example Proline Hammers, you'll get much more softer tire at the start. It even gets softer when you shave it for the paddles. Being softer the tire will get bigger once you accelarate hard and it gets better grip faster. That's only our observation though.

Good enough logic and observation for me to try a set! I'll order a set of Panthers and Hammers as soon as I get the chassis here. A little sucked into other projects, and lack the cash ATM to order. Almost positive there is one stashed away in the corners of DravTech HQ for me with a white skid though...

Time for small updates and some snow foff testing.

Updates. Wraith drive shaft to the rear axle and a nice DravTech CF motor plate.

Drive shaft assembled and ready to go.

We made practicing course on next weekends comp area.

Steep part before the finishing gate.

It was good fun to drive it on the hills. The performance suprised me completely! Minor changes to the comp, but otherwise it's ready for it!

You simply can't end a bashing like this without an issue.

Not too bad this time though. Front drive shaft got loose.

Tomorrow I'm heading back to the garage and finish this beast for

THE comp!

Looks like I forgot my manners. Will you "please" get video of your rig in the snow? Hahaha...

The snow almost looks like more fun than the sand. Regardless, I can't take this anymore, am checking my paypal balance now, and debating what I can sell to get my Sudu on it's way a little sooner.

Final preparations for next weekends comp is done.

Added the new motor mount to new transmission.

I had 20t pinion last year, but less speed is ok, so it's now 17t.

Just charging the batteries and it's ready for it.

This body has been around a while. Can you find a thing which leads to this conclusion?

Anywho, I'm all set and I'll be aiming for the first place in The Winter Foff. This rig has been second four times in that comp and never a single victory. It sure is time for that.

How are the plastic AX10 style locked slipper hubs holding up on this rig? I'm using one on my SCX10, but have considered buying the Locked Up slipper eliminator for it. If the plastic hubs seem to last though, I may just leave it. My only fear is stripping out the inside of the hub where it slides over the input shaft. I guess though, that far up in the drive train layout, there really shouldn't be that much torque on it.

This is the baddest FOFF rig I have ever seen! Great job! I thought for a while about converting my Maxstone 10 into a FOFF rig because it has TVP's like the AX10, but it has a all plastic gear tranny and I can't find any metal upgraded gears for it. So I couldn't drop in a brushless system like I wanted to. Oh well.

So far I've had no problems with them. Never broke a single one.

Thanks! You should get AR60 axles for this job.

Anywho... We had our first comp of the season 2015.

Courses were really tough today!

Fantastic line of rigs!

Twelve rigs in the line.

Sadly I am nowdays the photographer, so there isn't too many pics of my rig.

Toxoplasma Condii was way better shape in this comp, than it was the previous TWF year back.

I had few bigger mistakes in the comp, but this was one course I was able to catch up.

Zero degree snow was really soft.

I almost made this one to the top.

After comp rig was in one piece and I'm satisfied of it's performance.

Here is my best performance of the day. Last course I was only one to clear it!

But still... 40 point difference to the winner. Fifth time I end up second with this rig in The Winter Foff. It's so sad it's almost funny... AAARGHHH..

Well, on the other hand summer is in front of us and I can't wait for it to start! Next comp 11th of April. Stay tuned!

After the comp, I got myself straight back to the garage.

I remembered that I had a set of Crawlerkeller titanium links, which could fit in this build.

Front lowers. Perfect fit!

Front end feels much more alive now.

Some crazy ass bends in the rear!

Some ground clearance gained!

That's a good fit. Now the rear uppers.

Fitted in there as well. With the new links I was able to clock rear axle a bit.

I changed front driver spring from red to orange to disable chassis torque. Hopefully it works.

Sideprofile with the new links. The rear drive shaft is a bit low, that I have to admit. Allthought it doesn't matter so much in foff, cause the sand is soft most of the times.

With the body on.

Next thing would be rebuilding the front axle. But now I have plenty of time to do it.

Alright, I've just read through an unhealthy amount of your posts trying to figure out this potato thing. I can understand why you'd run it in your bully, but why do you have a potato in the chassis with a transmission and motor?! Clearly it works for you, but why?

Some new stuff came today for this rig!

ProTek RC PTK-250S servo a.k.a speed maniac!!

Specifications:
● Operating Voltage: 4.8V – 6.0V
● Operating Temperature Range: 14° to 140° F (-10 to +60° C)
● Speed: @ 6.0V: 0.04 sec
● Torque: @ 6.0V: 102 oz-in (7.4 kg-cm)
● Motor Type: High Efficiency Coreless Motor
● Pulse/Frequency: 1520μs / 333hz
● Output Shaft: 25 Tooth
● Weight: 71.8g
● Gears: Metal

We'll see how well that works out. It doesn't have the torque, but I'm not so sure if I need that.

And new motor connectors.

I'll have to put these on soon. Just have to find the time for it.

Go for it!

Time to spend some time with this bud again.

Installing some new parts and rebuilding my front axle with new housing and al screws.

New drive shaft to front as well.

Taring the front axle apart.

New servo compared to old one. It's a little bit smaller, but 10g heavier.

Gears into new housing.

Coming together nicely.

I gotta rearrange the steering geometry, so it won't be so much of a stress for the low torque servo.

New wildboards assembled.

Some aluminium screws to the rear axle as well.

Looking lighter already!

I'll redo the electronics once again. Will put them on a tight package somehow.

"Some" sand came out from the receiver.

I definately wanna see the predicted weight reading.

Few grams lighter than the previous setup. Still have beadlocks though....

I'll continue from this next time.

Personally, I'd get that RX coated with acrylic conformal coating, which won't attract dust and grit like the Silicone stuff, then shrink tube the RX leaving the ends open. Then the board will be water proof and protected by the acrylic coating, yet you will be able to blow the sand out either end of the shrink tube with a little compressed air. Also lose the weight of the case in the process. Just my $0.02...

That's a good advice! For now I just put the waterproofing spray on the rx and put a shrink on it though.

Some updates before first test on sand this year.

Shaved down my steering arm a little, so the steering would be better organized for low torque servo.

Electronics version two.

Still not pretty and not too well organized, but at least I got them a bit forwards.

That's how they are seattled.

I'm satisfied with it so far, let's try it like that first.

Test drive completed succesfully and DEAR LORD is that servo a killer. SPEEEEEEEEEEEDD!

I'm actious to see it on the hills once the temperatures start rising again.

I'm also happy with the steering itself. Next update after the sand tests!
