Yes, it has 3.8's. I realized after that post that it won't work. Maybe pro line will release a 3.8 Sand paw.

Messing around in the yard. Don't even have a body yet and there's carnage!

Wow, good start. If I may make a few suggestions? Ok, thanks.

Shocks have WAY to much articulation, maybe thicker oil or more preload.

Not too sure how much steering you have, but looks a bit on the low side. You should have about 45° .
Here's the important one. Replace the metal spur with delrin. It's easier to replace then the pinion. Also make sure you get the same pitch/mod on both pinion and spur, also have a few of each on hand if you've found your desired speed/ temp range.

Lastly, keep an eye on the gear mesh when you change batteries.

Thanks for the tips. I'm prob going to put these shocks on my wraith and get some shorter ones for this one. As for the pinion spur, I like having metal on both. I think I just had a low quality pinion. I put on a better pinion and it is holding up.

Oh and got a body on it.

Nice custom build. Looks great in the pics and Im sure will look awesome in video especially with the new beetle body. How would you compare her to your Wraith?

It's a completely different animal. I've got the wraith geared really low for crawling. They're both a lot of fun but they are built for completely different types of terrain. The bug is more fun just to play around in the yard with though being so much faster.

that is one awesome rig!!!!

as for your pinion getting mauled it looks like it was probably a robinson racing pinion right? i have a hot racing metal spur on my wraith and it ate through RR pinions almost weekly on a 3100kv motor on 2s. i switched to hot racing pinions and they have almost no noticeable wear on them. obviously your setup is head and shoulders above mine but you might get atleast more than one trip around the yard with the hot racing pinion.

Default Foff Build From Texas

Thanks for that info. I'll have to try the HR pinions. I think that one was a traxxas one. I just ordered a Robinson extra hard pinion that they suggest with their steel spur that I have. I've been having issues with the plastic wheels stripping also. So I've got some proline 2.8's for the 17mm hex, got the adapters already.

Also got some shorter shocks on the way to get this thing a little lower.

Well I got the shorter shocks installed and the 17mm hexed 2.8" wheels installed. It's a lot lower and wider now.

After seeing all the nice rigs here it's time for me to build a big power, sand throwin' machine. This will be my first build from scratch as I bought my Wraith RTR.

Heres the plan:
MambaMax Pro
Castle 1406 5700kv
Homemade Chassis
AR60 axles
AX10 Trans
2.8 Proline Sand Paws/Desperado Wheels

Not sure yet what body but I'm thinking a VW Bug

So heres what I've got so far.

Castle Mamba Max Pro, 1406 5700kv and 2.8 Desperado 2729-03 wheels

Some lower links and various rod ends and some .125 aluminum sheet for some chassis plates.

Some plans for the chassis. Sitting at a 14" wheelbase.

Tried cutting out the side plates out with my Dremel to no avail and to late to go over to my dads shop to cut them out.

Suggestions are always welcome
Is it a Texan thing where we have this strange ability to draw some weird geometrical representation of an off-road chassis and suspension setup?! I find myself doing that all the time with cardboard lol....

Then I use the thick cardboard (really it's just cardboard from a box lol!) to use as a guide to cut aluminum if I'm making a panel or skid.

Heck links I do the same the lol. We don't need no stinking auto cad! Warren Guidry designed the first ATV tire in history on a paper napkin for Interco....the best home grown ideas come from the south!

I don't know if it's a Texas thing or not but I use cardboard all the way up to my full sized parts.

The ifs frame and making room for the ac compressor. And maybe the engine crossmember with the slotted holes. Not too sure on that one. Maybe first gen? Either way, that's my kind of project. Badass.

You hit the nail on the head, 99 Tahoe with 1st gen cummins drivetrain. Only I never got around to hooking up the ac.
