The winter project - the featherweight Hi peeps here is a first glance of my new project.. The build will be lightweight and have as low a CG a practically possible. I've done pretty much the same thing before using aluminium, but now its carbon fiber-time. I've just started the mock-up phase, here's some pictures: http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/...pseb132e92.jpg 1. bought the SCX10 and built it just for fun. Building a new kit always puts a smile on my face.. http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/...psaa8a3a53.jpg 2. I'll use the transmission and the axles, the rest might become a later project. MODS: Transmission: Robbinson Racing internals Front Axle: 1. RCBros Burly tubes, gives me a wider axle with a much better steering angle. 2. XR10 universal shafts, too support the increased steering angle. 3. STRC chubs & steering knuckle (aluminium). Issues/comments: 1.moving to the burly tubes, you have to remove a set of bearings that support the axle shafts, I hope i don't get vibration issues @ high rpms... 2. The STRC chubs splines did not fit great on the burly tubes, anyone else have the same experience? http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1e06c2e9.jpg 3. The start of the mock-up chassis (in plastic). I dont want to drill holes in the wrong places - on the carbon fibre plate (pun intended), so I use cad to make templates.. http://i1340.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6258372a.jpg 4. The basic layout of the chassis.. In the background you see the body I used on my old rig. I'm going to paint a new body (same type) for this build I'll use the velenion system during the building and through the winter (live in Norway, so we get a fair share of snow). when spring comes I'll put in the 5700kv mamba max system, should be great! Updates will follow through the winter... BTW, this rig will need a name, any suggestions? |
