Default My first Foff... Test drive today...

Here is what i have so far.

-hustler chassis
-scx10 axles (locked) under drive currently
-integy chubs and hubs
-axial links
-hitec hs645mg
-rc4wd r2 trans
- MIP HD drive lines

now my plans, MMP (i have sitting on my bench) with either a (all are sitting on my bench) castle 5700kv(on 2s only) , castle 3800 4pole (on 2s and 3s) , or a axial 3150 (on 3s). I have overdrive gears to into both axles. I al so ordered upper links to fix the upper 3 links. I would like to change to a softer springs(these are hard).... ti know i need to grind some off the front battery mount to clear the shock springs

i am willing to listen to any other things. along with the motor choice thanks for looking

I would lower it. Shorter shocks and maybe straight links at the back.

Not sure what i am doing yet.... i did make it lower, i have a set of traxxas gtr shocks in the mail. here is what it looks like so far.

looks quite different than the pictures above. 4 linked the rear (need to do the front still) went from 91mm rear links to 112mm here in the picture. i have ordered 135mm for the front and rear, i need more clearance in the front due to the tuber sitting on the front servo . hope this will work.

With the 135mmm links i think i may have to go to a 2.8 tire and wheels for the realistic look. these look like pizza cutters already.

let me know what you think... as i said this is my first Foff build... i am no expert.

I'm no expert either but I have been studying some expert builds and to keep sand or dirt from digging into the skid you need to add some metal work up front and maybe even in the rear...angled formed sheet with slots for the links...sort of like a sled so the belly skims over instead of digging into the stuff.

You are going to want your shocks as vertical as possible to limit travel and you'll want your links just about flat to the skid at ready to race weight. 1:1 FOFF racers have little articulation compared to something like a rock bouncer or crawler. They'll not being working rocks at all...just the loose stuff...low and taut.

This thing has took a long rough road to get where it is... i think this is the best it will be. I know it sits up high, and i am thinking it needs to have springs inside the shock bodies.

but hope to get the 3800kv 4 pole mounted in it and see the wheels spin for the first time.... i also think the tires and wheels need to be 2.8 instead of the 2.2.... the wheel base is kinda long but it all due me making clearance for the rollcage and servo on the front end.

Default Project redo!

Well i have alot of fail parts now, but i can say that the three battery packs i ran through it today has been worth it.

I 1/2 way fixed the revo shocks, i replaced the 4.6 rated springs with jato rears that are rated at 1.4 , only because that is what the hobby shop had. I need to get some 30-35 weight shock oil to make them even better.

i put the over drive gears in that i have been waiting to do ... just to see the truck completed and moving before i open them up.

The only other think i really want to do is get some 2.8 paddles for it. The rcwd paddles are the best paddles i ever used, no signs or ripping and no signs of wear yet.... and she was spinning!! i have had prolines before and seem to rip at the edge of the scoops.

here are some pictures, i made a video but need to learn to edit there is alot of dead time in there, and it sucks to watch a 2 minute clip with only 45 seconds of action... i will spare you all on that.

I thought this would be interesting to know.... The only new parts on this rig is.

-o/d gears in diffs
-Axial Pinion gear
-some 3mm screws
-Rc4wd paddles
-Cone blue washers
-Jato shock springs
- super shafty yeti shaft
-flat piece of lexan for body panels
-locked up rear 4 link mount

New parts bought on ebay from sellers who pulled things from the rts/kits.
-nitro revo shocks ($12.00!!)
-nitro revo push rods+turnbuckles. (2 sets at 10.00ea)
-vp front four link plate

the rest i either found in our classified section
-axles
-rc4wd trans
-tuber
-3800kv and sct esc
-axial wheels

it was a total budget build, collecting parts for over 3 months until i thought i had enough parts to start with a build.

So my budget build needs some 2.8 paddles. The 2.2 are just too small, until i get some ordered here is what i have been playing around with... it has a enough wheel speed and torque guess it is dubbing as a rock racer...? inbred machine-lol

got these tires and wheel from the classifieds

i would like some wheel wideners for these wheels and tires. still would researching 2.8 wheels to find the most offset so i don't have to go to the AR60 axles.

very nice build. It nice to see parts are being used from the parts bin it's like building rat rods lots of mods and trail an error..
Buy the way i use to have a chassis like that way back when axial came out with the production model of the ax10 that was my first mod.....
Keep up the good work ...

Looks good amigo, well done. She sits pretty high, have you jumped it yet?

If you could lower it some more and have straight links the handling would improve a lot.

With the shocks being straight up and down, wouldn't that increase travel instead of having them angled? I read someone said to straighten them, but not sure if that would be best?

Thanks for the comments, i am pretty limited as far as the shocks mounting holes on the chassis. It has only one spot for the mounting the shocks, guess i could use a link that allows me to mount the shock near the end of the lower links(?).

it jumps like a wooden board with the 40wt shock oil in the shocks...;0 i was thinking about using a losi mini comp crawler spring (maybe soft) above the pistion with 5 or 10wt oil in the shocks.

One other idea i thought of is using a touring car shock, but fell that will not be enough shock for the weight of the rig. but that would lower the standz. - not sure, i am very happy with it so far, i atted the BFG's and it is perfect for a fun trip around our 7 acres mix of hard dirt , grass hills. plus hard dirt ditches!

OH boy,did things change... wraith trans, from the classifieds... green paint, ar60 axles new. Over drive gears going in them.. new MMP being bought due to testing a transmission with the sct sidewinder 3 smoking out. I was about to jump on the tekin wagon train because of this.. but staying loyal to castle after 11 years of believing in them

here are couple teasers..
