Picked mine up used with a goat 3s and 21.5 with 4ws. I dropped the 4ws and tossed in a 120a brushless hobbies esc with 3500kv non sensored but still pretty smooth and a futaba 3305 servo.

Off course i do not want to stay behind.

Couple of weeks ago i had a sweet deal on a R1. This rig was on my wishlist for a long time. I traded my Wraith for it. Something i do not regret. My Wraith had seen plenty of action and was pretty worn down. All bearings screwed, lot's of bodydamage and wear and tear.
I have rebuild it ince for my daughter and made it metallic pink (The Chickyride). Then my son took it over and made it British Racing green (he called it the Green mamba....).
To be frank, the only parts that were ok were my ESC (Hobbywing WP1060, motor (Novak Rock Star 45T), receiver (Axial 2 channel) and the Servo (Novak Sw0321MG).

So the R1 arrived. It was practically immaculate. Not even a scratch of the diff housing. Hadn't seen many miles (not even inches).

I have this philosophy that i always want to make something special of my rigs. I want them to "stand out" a bit. So not being just another R1, but make it "my R1".

Since i was on a budget (who isn't) i spoke to my sponsor RcMart what they could do. They gave me a slight discount on some parts.
I had the idea of making it more a hybrid between a King of the Hammers car and a rockcrawler.

Enough talking, let's look at some pictures. Of course, as being a professional photographer i like my pictures also different...

I disliked the Bighorn tires immediatly. Buying the Sedonas was out of budget, but i think they will be a good investment.

Extented the side panels backwards. Gave it a complete different look instantly.

always liked the style of the R1 cage. but wasnt keen on the overall capabilities of the stock rig.

Parts list.

Integy Wraith centered rear axle: VP locker Axial HD UD gears, RC4wd Centered Wraith axle shafts

Axial AR60 front axle housing, Stock steering parts, Axial Universals, Stock locker HD UD gears, Integy Truss, custom servo mount. MG996 (towerpro?) servo. stock plastic steering link, doubled up.

stock wraith front shocks. 20w oil. (HPI Savage?) rear shocks dual sprung, semi droop 10w oil.

Jazzrider SCX10 alloy transmission case and steel gears on a stock SCX10 skid, Deadbolt 32pitch spur and Leopard 3960kv brushless motor. HSP BL ESC runs on 2s with Junfac steel shafts.

Axial Method beadlocks from my yeti, still on the stock plastic hex hubs so far, venom switchback tires with stock Yeti kit wildpeak foams.

may have missed one or two specifics, but mostly can ya let me know if my pics disappear? FB is not a reliable hosting source, but i cant access my photobucket atm.

note: servo has moved since this image>

Here's my Komodo kit. Still dirty from the first few runs.

Terrible photo but gives a look at how I put all the weight up front.
Action shots

And then this happened. I will check on upgrades or fixes for losing pins, or invest in a baggie of pins and clips!

I'm contemplating building one of these with my ar60 axles and this chassis. How does it perform compared to stock and can I fit my spare scx10 skid/tranny in there?

Here's my Komodo on it's first scale outing. Upgrades include Voodoo blue compound tires, Sawback sliders, zero ackerman knuckles and steering kit, cvd's and cms. I swapped out the kit shocks for some Axial units for more adjustability. Lighting up the 20 leds is an Associated light controller and a high output Axial unit. A Castle SV3 and RC4WD 35T motor powers the beast.

- Was: Stock R1 RTR aside from the Axial beadlocks and TSL XLs with CI dual density foams; about a week old. This is gonna be fun.
