|  R1 wobbly front wheels
Hi guys i dont know if its normal on every R1 but my front wheels wobble a bit...i mean if you grab the front wheels and try to move them vertically there seems to be some free play in the knuckles. Its not wear and tear since they were always like this....there are no loose screws either. The rears are fine. I just ordered the alum replacements to maybe hopefully i get it sorted but wanted to know if yours are the same. Adrian |

I have all the aluminum upgrades and mine wiggle too. Any experts know why or if it's OK?

not an expert but me and bentka were talkin about this .... its most probably because of the natural slop from the portal gears ..... if there were upgraded precision gears for the portals which would mesh better ... supposedly this slop would go away .... i havent tried shimming them though |

they wobble even with alum parts? ...that's bad...was hoping that i would get it sorted ...mine seems to wobble from where there are the top and bottom screws holding the steering knuckles....there seems to be some freeplay which then causes the wheels to wobble. Its not too bad but imo makes the crawler look cheapish... ....i'll wait for the hop ups and then i'll see it it gets a bit better....at least with alum parts i wont worry that much that its gonna break  |

just finished installing the alum steering hop ups and yes i still have wobbly front wheels....seems like its because of the way the shafts are made...i noticed that its the shaft attached to the wheels that has some freeplay in the knuckles....its not much but obviously it translates to wheel wobble.

I have all the aluminum steering upgrades and mine does it as well. And where the top and bottom screws hold the steering knuckles in place, they are always coming loose. I used loctite and tightened them up, but then it wouldn't steer, so I had to back them off some. And with about 10 min of run time the work themselves out again. How are you guys keeping your screws in place without affecting the steering? Giz |

i just check them regularly especially after heavy runs....actually i try and check all major screws since i still get the occasional screw getting lose sometimes.

I'm building one now, my slop is coming from the kingpins. Has anybody tried different manufactures kingpins? I can't stand slop! My might order some tamiya and try them. |

Found the solution! The small brass bushings that come with RC4WD Trex 60 axles work perfit! Put them in, get rid of the kingpins and use a 3mm bolt, nice tight fit.

Word of warning, while these are PERFECT with the plastic stock knuckles, they will not work with the Junfac 7 degree aluminium knuckeles I got recently. The knuckles work fine though. No concerns there.

i think front wheel wobble does not affect the performance in any way....i just learnt to live with them as they are and so far its still going strong....

I have the aluminum upgrades and I used small shims between the hub and C's to tighten everything up. A good amount of locktight will keep them screws from backing out.

Also be careful running other than stock wheels. For example, some Proline wheels have a bigger diameter hole for the axle so the wheel nut doesn't cover the entire thing always and that can provide some slop as well.

I agree with rcrun... The dia on the drive shaft is 4mm and the dia on the rim is 5mm I dont know if you can get the hex nut with the 'nipple' bit on it and make that fit...? I have done this mod and my wheels are not wobbling anymore...!! Hope this helps |
