tedo's R1 Had this for a little over a month, and I must say, it flat out rules. I have been experimenting with various motor combination and batteries. I started out brushless with a 13.5 Novak w/ a VXL on 2s. Obviously the VXL sucks for crawling because lack of a drag brake, so I switched to an XL-5 with a Johnson 27T on 3s. The 27T with a 15T pinion on 3s seems to be a great combo of torque and speed (maybe 12mph tops), but cruising through the woods or rockpiles 12mph is fast enough, but still has great torque. I also added the 4WS kit, because let's face it, the R1 has horrible steering. The 4WS is absolutely awesome in the trails. It can make it through tight spots easier and also helps climbing steep rocks by adding more grip by the rear wheels being able to turn. And the 4WS looks so awesome too. Over-all this is a great rock racer / trail basher. Got new shoes.. The TSL Swampers. These thing are the sheeeet. Very sticky and very scale. They do out perform my old rock lox. I also re arranged my layout of electronics. I moved my battery up front, next to my motor (I had to flip the receiver tray upside down, and do mild trimming, but nothing drastic). Also moved my ESC and rx to the rear battery tray (also flipped upside down for a slightly lower COG). With the majority of the weight up front and a lower COG and the G8 Swampers.... This thing rules. I have about 30 packs through this rig the last couple months, and she is tough, and reliable. With a 27 T and 3S... very bash-worthy that can crawl over and trough anything. If you do go brushless, find a SENSORED motor. They are very smooth at low speeds. I do not think those hobbyking ones are sensored, so you will get cogging at low speeds, which is terrible for crawling. |

Nice vid. where is your battery? I have dig and man it takes up alot of room I have to run mine on the front axle.So I have issues with it getting hung up. Jason |

So, it's winter and extremely cold here. I thought I would share some updates to my R1. New body panels that my buddy made at work. Appears to be an 18ga aluminum - lasered out. Very precise and cool looking. 110mm rc4wd shocks. These things are great for flex and scaleness. Something just didn't feel right with the stock r1 shocks, plus they were still leaking even after the plumber's tape and greased o-rings. These shocks so far are performing extremely good in my basement course. lights gmade Bottom skid. Made a motor to cover my ESC. It's a little silly, but looks better then the esc sitting there out in the open. This was a real challenge to get it to fit right. A lot of dremmel action. I also installed and an interior out of an old New Bright Jeep body I had laying around. Trimmed and painted it to fit perfectly in the cab. Also added a seat (also from the Jeep). Found a MX driver at Toy's R Us on sale that fits perfectly. I keep rearranging the electronics to try and tuck them away. Made a tray for the rx under the hood. Also made a new battery tray behind the transmission, and relocated the esc on the stock battery tray and covered it up with my motor cover.
