| I need advice from Gmade R1 wizards...
today I purchased gmade R 1 for my son. it will be used for running around bashing. I also purchased the high clearance suspension links. my question is what would be a good ESC/ Motor for type fun? brushless or brushed motor. I have a spare Futaba 3-PM-X radio . Any other advice? much appreciated. Thanx B.Knucklhead

in my opinion a tekin fxr would by a good ESC it is programmable and would grow with him. as far as a motor goes I would say a 35 or 45 turn motor brushed. a 35 would give more speed and a 45 would give a little less speed but more torque. brushed is a little cheaper to get into. |

I ended up making a deal for G-made R1 Black, Sidewinder3, Spektrum Dx4c, all I have left pick up is to get Servo and Batteries + Charger. Any suggestions on those items? I was looking at wheel porn I'd like to find a pair of Gripfab Tic-Tacs to set things off. thanks for any advice, Brad |

One of the weaknesses of the R1 is the axle hex pins, so going for heavier wheels on a basher isn't really recommended. I stuck with the stock wheels/tyres and they've been fine for loose dirt/grass running - i did break two hex pins early on, when i was running a 3800kV brushless motor on 2S. even though i geared down a few pinion sizes, and it was only a small outrunner sized motor, it would still almost backflip from a standing start. I've recently swapped it all out for a Tamiya Torque Tuned motor, nothing special and dirt cheap. Plenty quick enough unless you really want to tear around dirt piles at 25+ mph. Other than that its quite a tough old rig. As you can see form the more recent posts here, a lot of them are being modded with Axial parts now. I do like the versatility of the R1 though - a set of sand paddles makes for great bashing fun on the beach or sand dunes ;) Last edited by Percymon; 07-31-2014 at 09:50 AM. |

I have a fxr with the 35 turn in it as well. Works awesome. Only thing broken on mine has been drive shafts.
