Default R1 newbie

Need some help with an upgrade I am doing to my R1. I am installing the upgraded skid pan that moves the links to the inside of the frame, but when installing the skid pan my motor is hitting the frame not allowing the skid pan to line up with the holes..... do I need to trim the frame or is their something I'm not seeing?

I miss my R1. These are great crawlers!

I had to slightly trim the frame to run certain motors. It's really no big deal. The R1 tubes are beefy.

What motor?

Right now I am starting with a RC4WD 35t. Also i found the upgraded front links for the steering hit the pumpkin cover not allowing the fronts to turn very far

I have been hearing horror stories on youtube of how hard the shocks are to build. I think they were the easiest thing to put together just make sure you use the small o-rings and use a regular wrench to tighten the caps. Mine haven't leaked yet.

Also needing help with a battery. I am running a Savox 1258tg servo, a Spektrum SRS4210 receiver and a Axial AX24259 AE-2 ESC. The motor I am using is a RC4WD brushed 35t. What will be the best battery to use??

I'm also relatively new to R1 ownership. I was running an AE-2 ESC on 4600 mAh 2S Lipo with no issues...except I reversed polarity accidentally and fried it.

Now I'm running the less expensive, but waterproof, AE-5 ESC on 2S or 3S and the same RC4WD 35t motor you have. 2S should give you decent wheel speed on that motor, and will work with your ESC.

I had similar issues with the upgraded steering links. On my buggy, the upgraded links were rubbing on the front axle skid plate when I used the 7 degree C-Hubs. I ended up putting the original links back on and fixed the turning radius by adding the 4 wheel steer kit and an extra servo. (My Futaba 3PL transmitter handles 4 wheel steer nicely.)
