Default Gmade XD shocks Aeration screw function

I just read a ton of posts on the gmade XD shock after assembling them yesterday.

The manual said nothing about the aeration screw and I can find any info here either.

Why is this screw included and how do I make use of this feature?

I was very careful to have no air in the shock when I built them. Why would I want to aerate?

Thanks for help with my newb question

Hey are you guys using iPhones and iPads and Tapatalk?

If you loosen the screw does oil come out?

Thanks Angelow, but alas no discussion of the screws function.

This video is more what I imagined it to be used for. I guess I'll go with it:

It's to let oil out. Just like step 10 in that video.

Never, it's already in there by the nature of non-bladder (aeration) shock setup.

I guess the term aeration made me think that I would aerate the shock. Which to me sounds like "add air", but I'm no English Major.

You would think they'd call it the oil purge screws if it was to release oil.

Anyway, I think you can use this screw to relieve pressure after assembly. If you want a low pressure shock. I actually want a fast rebound for my needs.

I just add the proper amount of fluid normally, but I guess that screw is an option if I ever make a low pressure setup. But that seems like a major waste with these piggybacks. I don't even think it would really activate the spring in the reservoir in a low pressure setting.

So, here's how I've decided to set my gmade shocks.

I fill them as described with reservoir filled first then compressed fully. I used the included oil with two hole piston.

When putting together, I did not depress the shaft. Providing a high pressure setup.

I believe that when the shock hydro locks that's when it will have enough force to engage the spring in the reservoir.

I used the screw on the piggyback so that the spring engages at 5/6 compression. This essentially gives me a progressive bumpstops after the hydraulics of the shock have done their job.

I believe this is the way it was intended, but the directions don't describe it this way.

Been happy with it so far.
