Default Is r1 worth it ?

I am asking if it worth it to keep investing in the r1 or i should start a new project all along. I have already done a couple of mods and i would like to know what is the long term experience you all have with it. I got it as a starter and "for fun" but i got hooked and i would like to know if it is worth investing or i should go for a moa crawler or a high quality scaler. And if yes what are your proposals !

The R1 is a fun rig..... I love mine but it cost me a ton to get where I am, and it really isn't a crawler but a bouncer. I've done tires and settled with a set of jconcepts Ruptures, great traction with stock foams.
Small bearings and sloppy gears in the portals. If you really want to crawl, think of a rig with better axles..... scx10 2 is a starter.
I also have a Bully2 MOA as a serious crawler, much more $$$ and ability .

I also considered the bully because crawling is what i want . What combo would you recommend and how much will it cost me to build a decent one? Keep in mind that where i live there is no crawling scene and i pretty much do it on my own. I have found some great spots. My main rc thing is racing 1/10 off road .

I'm in the same boat, spend some $$$ on the R1 to address the shortcomings. Biggest is awful Turning radius ......
I went to 4ws, two servos and all the aluminum parts. I upgraded shocks and am still playing with them. I'm running axial yeti fronts on my rear and a set of 5" prolines up front. Light oil and springs.....
I'm running a sensored motor with a Holmes hobby BLE, great drag brakes.
If yo double your $$ the R1 will last. Outside of regular small bearings failing and an occasional rear driveshaft failure(extreme angle) this rig is bulletproof fun, just not comping .

Agree with Mikemce. I dumped a lot of cash at the R1 to get where I am with it, mainly to keep up with my buddies LCC. It is a fun rig and I learned a lot through out the build. Went with an XR10 for serious crawling. Good luck!!

If rock crawling is not a big seen where you are and your not planning on competition then id stick with your R1 and upgrade what breaks. If you start over with say an scx10 2 or a bully then the cost of outlay plus upgrades will be much higher
That being said i have not had my R1 for long so may change my mind soon lol

So far i got 4ws new tyres and a couple of aluminium parts .. It works kinda cool but definately more like a scaler not a proper crawler.

I used a $12 R1 cage and the rest was Axial products. So no portal axles but parts availability is abundant...but not needed. Depends on your budget.

I've easily doubled my initial cost on my original RTR R1 and have a rig that has not failed me yet, all aluminum bits, a Holmes Hobby ESC and brushed motor, 4 wheel steering, a Gmade DIG unit, new tires/wheels, and 3 hi-tek servos to control it all.

Basically - I've got around $800-900 invested in the rig. My wife thinks it's a third of that; no idea how that happened.
