I wonder if metal gears would help (if they are machined properly)

I'll be using metal gears on my build, placing order today.

Does anyone know if a Tekin ROC412 will fit in a GOM? My kit hasn't arrived yet.

Motor Diameter: 35.8mm / 1.41"
Motor Length: 52.5mm / 2.10"

Thanks

that should fit without issue. from what I've seen its only when you hit 550 dimensions that you'll run into an issue.

I'm definitely a GMade owner now. I'll start a build thread soon.

That sounds familiar, before I even purchased mine I filled up a cart on Junfac will almost all of the Gom mods and had a $500 total then I throttled back a bit a cut that more than in half.

Looks like you might have got your kit from the same seller I got mine from on Ebay, he (allmyrcs) seems to be the only one auctioning them off. I forgot how different Ebay has become, seems like there's hardly any auctions anymore.

Welcome to the club!

I'm going to check the hardware store for little metal zip ties later today. If I cant find anything to fit I'm thinking a smear of shoe goo might help to keep the ring in place while being something that could be cleaned up later if needed.

EDIT: one more idea, maybe there's better snap ring available in the same size? its 12.7x0.7mm
I am going to check if its possible to just simply add a second ring.

I don't see there being enough room for that, its really only wide enough for the ring they provide.

Though I do have 2 retainers from a Tamiya axle set which is much thinner but its 3 loops, its too wide and would need to be cut down some.

For now I'm gonna try some CA glue

I just fitted some 2x12mm pins in the CVA's last night and took some measurements and pictures HumboldtEF's Gmade Gom Build

Would heat shrink tubing over the snap ring do the trick?

Well the pin on the new CVA has lasted over 35mins now...so that's a good sign. However the 20T died in my son's GOM last night...so he is getting my 20T and I've put the mamba X and 3800 in...running on a 12T pinion and it will be 3S. Be good to run the aux mode. It's a bit tight in there though...

So after reading these recent posts, what I gather is the Gmade CVDs are pretty terrible. Is anyone running theirs hard and NOT having constant breakage? I've already switched all the driveshafts over to Gmade/Junfac CVDs but haven't driven it much since. If breakage at 35 minutes is "good", this one is gonna be put on shelf queen status.

I'm interested to hear how Humboldt's 2x12mm pins work out.

I'm willing to bet it is/was the smaller pins causing problems. This isn't really a new design they are using so I'm blaming inferior materials for now.

Pins, cages and gearshifts are the main issues so far...other than that love it. To be fair with the washer mod I nearly always get a clean shift now.

I think that it could be batches of the CVA that may have issues. My first set were pre-assembled. The next set Ive had to build myself. Its now brushless so I will see how it copes....

Yeah I think I was focusing on the retaining clip a lot more that I probably should have. When I heard the pins were coming loose I assumed the clip was letting them loose but now I think what might be happening first is the pin is snapping.

I just did a very, very unscientific strength test where I held the pins (stock and new longer pins) with two sets of pliers and broke them, they both seemed to break with the same force. I kind of expected the stock pin to feel brittle but it didn't stand out.

Anyway I think (and hope) it may just be down to length and the amount of engagement at the axle cup. Imagine for a moment the (shorter stock) pin moving around, as it shifts to one end the other end might be left with so little engagement, maybe .5mm or so that when it transmits force into the pin its ready to shear it off, like hitting it with a blade compared to a hammer (exaggeration). Having more engagement here should in theory spread the forces out much better.

Alright enough theory I need to put these new pins thought its paces.

Also I took a few pictures of the "washer mod", I thought it may help someone as I've only heard it described so far. Washers are placed between the shift slider cover with the intented of allowing a bit of slop in the slide mechanism and to help improve shifting. My washers measured 1/32" thick. Its the only thing that I've changed with the shifter and it seems to be pretty consistent, I still get an occasional miss-shift though.

For those of us waiting for aluminum dig forks to return to stock, I received an email from Greg @ Active Powersports saying he expects them in around the end of the month.

Just wanted to pass this along. Hopefully other vendors will be getting their stock around the same time.

I've been waiting for that for a long time. I'll probably pick that up and the metal gears together. Still deciding whether the HD diff locker is needed.

Active Powersports? Have you ordered from them before? I've heard horror stories about them. Especially since their site isn't accurate as far as what is in stock and what isn't, but still lets you order without any indication it's out of stock.

My general rule of thumb is that if it has never been in stock on Junfac, other vendors most likely haven't gotten them yet until Junfac lists them in stock.

What I do see recently listed on Junfac is the stock Hi/Lo/Dig shift fork parts. This is likely for the RTR GOM as it comes as a single speed.
