Default Gmade R1, overall impressions, what electronics?

Hey guys,
Just noticed RCMart have the Gmade R1 kit on sale for $255 with free shipping! :O Was wondering what you guys who own one think of it? Is it pretty capable out of the box or need major mods to work well? What motor and servo are you using? look forward to hearing from you as this seems like a bargain?

Cheers guys

I own an R1 brother, and to answer you question of how capable it is out of the box... not very. But, that’s what made it fun for me. Experimenting with different shocks and oils, links, dig systems, 4x steering etc... I still have it and love to rip it down and change things up on it. For electronics I have an axial 55t brushed motor, can’t remember the rx number but it’s a flysky 4 channel, and axial ESC(I’ll get back to you on which one) I have plenty of pics if you want man. Happy rig hunting!!

-Cheers

Brother in law had one. He swapped out the drive shafts, center skid, stick links, the Phillips hardware and a few other things before it would run for more than 5 min without breaking but he was pretty happy with it after that. I’d give it a 5/10 for quality out of the box but if you want to build something different go for it. I think it has a bolt on rear steer kit that’s made for it to.

I typed this almost auto correctly free

Thanks guys, good info. I don't think it would be a kit for me if that's the case. I like them to be reasonably capable out of the box.

The R1 is a GREAT starter rig. It was my first choice and I don't regret it. I ended up with a Vanquish Products Axial transmission and Hurtz dig unit in it. I went with a hacked Gt3B Flysky radio to run the dig. Castle Creations BEC and Sidewinder ESC and 55T Integy motor worked out great!
