Default Ozark's Build-a-Bear Workshop

Ozark's Build-a-Bear Workshop
- OR -
Does a GOM Poop in the Woods?

Ok, ok, I will leave the bear (Gom) jokes to comedians better than I. However, since parts have started to arrive, I will start my build thread.

For starters, I've been away from the hobby for almost 20 years. I was going to look at building something like a Bomber or a Wraith but then I saw the Gom and my future has been written. This will be a slow build, I have expensive tastes and a paupers income.

So far, I have received enough Fast Eddy's bearings to do the entire rig, a Robinson's Racing pinion gear, and G-Made CVA kit. I also have some grease and paint bombs.

My Gom kit should be here tomorrow and I have a large JunFac order on the way from Korea. There is also a set of aluminum body panels from Barndog Racing in the mail.

More photos as I take them. Painting to begin as soon as the kit arrives.

My Bear just arrived, time to get to work!

I scored this off of eBay for only $262. I highly recommend trying to get one from eBay yourself if you are in the market for one.

So it sounds like you're gonna start off with painting the interior, that's one thing that held up my build, before the cage can be completed the interior needs to go in. I usually leave paint for last but on this kit its not a bad place to start.

One more tip, measure all of the screws as you go, they have a lot of odd locations and close sizes so dont rush finding the right fasteners

Happy building!

There isn't much else I can do until my JunFac order arrives so paint it is. I'm custom painting the axles, transfer case, transmission case, and both the upper cage and lower cage.

Only plastic on my axles will be the housing itself.

Prepping and cleaning the axles for paint. I am going with a shade of Tamiya gun metal, it will either be plain gun metal or light gun metal depending on how it looks on a test subject.

The plan to make the drive-train a bit more metallic is working well thanks to Tamiya TS-38 Gun Metal.

Painting is going well but I think I screwed up the paint on the diff. covers. It will not be the end of the world if I can't make them presentable, it'll give the excuse to buy the JunFac (J30007) 3D diff. covers that I really want. However, I'll have to wait til April 1st. to place another JunFac order.

My current JunFac order will be here on Wednesday and I can begin axle assembly.

Really interested in how these are. I've been keeping an eye on them.

Someone on FB just stripped his stock locker as I was assembling these.

soze, I even splurged on aluminum bearing caps. This was a tough expense to swallow, however these are nice and thick and I'm pleased with them.

Rear axle is done, Front is almost ready. I think the use of Tamiya TS-38 Gun Metal came out nice with the Titanium Grey aluminum parts.

Parts:
JunFac Straight Axle Adpater (J30011)
JunFac Aluminum Axle Truss (J30013)
G-Made Aluminum Link Mount (GM30103)
G-Made HD Diff. Locker (GM30070)
G-Made Aluminum Bearing Cap (GM30090)
Team Fast Eddy Bearings

Front axle is complete. Sadly, I could not make the brass bushings work with the aluminum knuckles. I will have to try and do some machining later but not sure what to do at this point.

JunFac Aluminum Steering Knuckle (J30017)
JunFac Aluminum Panhard Mount (Axle) (J30009)
G-Made Aluminum Panhard Mount (Frame) (GM30097)
G-Made Aluminum Link Mount (GM30103)
G-Made HD Diff. Locker (GM30070)
G-Made Brass Knuckle Bushing (GM30076)
G-Made Aluminum Bearing Cap (GM30090)
G-Made CVA Driveshaft Kit (GMA30062)
Team XRAY 2x12mm pins installed in the CVAs and Hubs
Team Fast Eddy Bearings

Nice Build Ozark...

I'm also waiting for an order to arrive from Junfac, I bought from them all the available upgrades for the GOM...

I would like also to upgrade all the bearing from the kit for the fast eddy ones.

Which fast eddy kit do you purchased?

Thanks in advance...

I thought the knuckle comes with brass bushings? At least the pictures seem to show it that way.

I bought the brass bushings separately because the knuckles weren't available when I got my GOM.

You just need to buy them by size. At least that's what I did even though I haven't installed them yet.

5x8x2.5mm = x1
5x11x4mm = x21
6x12x4mm = x5
10x15x4mm = x8

Exactly, I bought them buy the piece from RPP.. cost wasn't that bad. I added one more 5x11x4mm to my count. I don't remember where but in the "Coming Soon" thread someone mentioned a plastic bushing that is best replaced by a 5x11x4.

Negative. No bushings came with my aluminum knuckles. I may try to play with them some more but I was having a helluva time trying to get the brass bushings to fit.. even the plastic ones turned out to be really tight but I got them together.
