Bevel gears don't mesh smootly I built a rear axle from gs02 Ta pro kit. It has one piece black steel heavy duty diff locker. All ball bearings sit correctly but there is lots of friction rotating the pinion. I decided to reassemble it from zero and I was extremely care with the screw because I noticed things are worse if they are too tightened. There is still lots of friction and there is no play anywhere. Maybe it only needs a break-in period, I cannot figure out what else I can try. Any advice ? Thanks Filippo |
Re: Bevel gears don't mesh smootly Chuck the pinion up in a cordless drill and spin it around for a minute, I bet it will smooth right out. My son's BOM gears had a very slight notchiness on initial assembly, but after spinning it by hand a few dozen times, they were very smooth. |
Re: Bevel gears don't mesh smootly Like stated a slightly notchy feel is a typical start if you have a good mesh. That said, just sure that all shimming is done correctly. If you have a good assortment of shims you can usually get it perfectly smooth with little play, but if not then its better to have it a little tight than a little loose. Just make sure you are not getting any actual binding, that will destroy things. Tight will break in a little. Hope that helps"thumbsup" |
