Default GMADE BOM Gearbox problems

Hi All,

Just wondering how many other people out there are having problems with the BOM's gearbox either not meshing correctly or breaking gears

I myself don't have the gear mesh problem but on my first run I broke 2 gears from about 15 mins runtime, under closer scruitiny ie putting my glasses on it looks as though the metal on the gears has fatigued

I'm still building mine, as spare time is scarce. I'm hoping to head off any issues with the gearbox by possibly reinforcing the small plastic clamps as discussed on the FB forum.

That sounds very strange. The gears look plenty strong on mine. I just built my gearbox today.... it was a bit tricky to get the top and bottom lined up and snapped together just right. Check to be sure the top is fully seated into the skid/bottom. I'm sure that if they are a little off, it'll lunch the gears in no time.

I opened up my transmission today to take a look and everything looked perfect. I have a feeling some folks aren't making sure the trans top cover isn't seating 100%. I will have to say, it's a bit of a pain to get the trans opened up on this rig.

Well they're GM gears...there's the problem! Just kidding as I am a Chevy fan and obviously GM probably means GMade. I don't own a BOM, but I've never had a GMade gear fail - metal or plastic.

It seems like you either got a dud, which happens, or something got into the trans. I'd see if you can get a replacement, but that's probably not going to happen unless you have an official GMade distributor in Australia. Just order up replacements and that'll be much faster.

I have ordered replacements from Junfac as all the spares and option parts can be sourced from there, but yeah I have had a sawback before and that lasted for ever I never once replaced any of the gears on that. I guess im hoping the new gears go the distance

The gears do look to be sintered which is not the strongest, but they usually hold up okay.

What kind of motor were you using? Is it brushless?

If you haven't contacted Gmade you might send them an email at the very least to let them know what happened. When the Gom had CVD issues they were pretty helpful to those having issues.

Definitely check the gearbox when you put it back together. If it's not tight on the front, those are exactly the gears that would get chewed up

The one dependable thing on my R1 was the trans and gears.Amazing on 3s brushless Tekin

Tempted to agree that it must be build issues, cant see it being poor molds. The plastic is a bit soft in places, so maybe it is just not getting put together properly and then flexing when the screws are snugged up?

I’m siding with build issues. It was a pain in the rear to get the trans case seated squarely but I have had no issues myself

That's encouraging news. Mine is still in progress, but I'll be sure to double check the trans fitment.

After some of these issues started to rear their ugly head, I did however shave a bit of plastic off the top of the pieces that hold the trans down and installed some standard 3mm nuts with some loctite since the 4 screws holding the housing to the skid only screw into the above mentioned “pieces that hold the trans down”. Hope that made sense.

While installing the motor, I noticed a screw missing in the trans assembly. I'm usually very thorough but I overlooked a 3x12mm screw coming up from the bottom (page 26). Anyone else miss it, or am I just getting sloppy in my old age?
