Default JP's Sawback

Hey guys finished my build this morning, love this truck! Very capable for a leaf rig. Hate the back end of the body though, it just doesn't look right. Here's some pics!

Thanks guys, had some time to drive this rig now, and it's too much fun! Makes my entire rock course MUCH more challenging, can't wait to get it out on a trail run and see how it does against some SCX10's. I made this quick video yesterday:

Any reason you put the front bumper on top of the frame rails?

I actually didn't know I had mounted it upside down! Just looked at some other pics and realized it. Oh well, more clearance I guess!

SO, here's my thoughts on the kit after it's first real trail run (4hrs). The shocks froze up almost completely solid, this may have had to do with submerging them a bit. The rollers on the skids fill up with gunk and stop rolling pretty quickly, but I did finally actually see them work a couple times. I may remove them to gain an extra 1/8" skid clearance (every bit counts with this rig!). The transmission case is not 100% sealed with the included cover, but a layer of grease on the inside of the cap when installing should be more than enough to keep it mostly water/crap-free. The single-leaf setup that I'm running has worked in well, I will be adding a second leaf to the front suspension for sure, maybe hold off on the rears for now. The tires haven't changed much since out-of-the-box, but they are starting to wear a bit more than I thought they would have in this cold slippery weather. 35t motor and 11t pinion is just barely faster than walking pace, but provides about 3hrs runtime in the cold, which is great!

I am still having a BLAST with this truck, it's just small enough to make everything a challenge, but it kept up to most of the rigs on the trail today.

One of the stock Battery zip-ties broke on me today, it was very cold out and I didn't apply much pressure at all, and snap! Will be replacing with velcro soon

About 7 5/8" tall measured from head to leg to knee to foot at each joint with cheap plastic calipers, so I got as close as I could. Didn't feel like un-strapping him! Fits the seats and steering wheel well! I had to trim away a lot of the knee and hip joint to get him to bend enough to fit, and he still hovers above the seat about 1/4"

The more I look at your bumper mounted on top the more I like it. I'm going to try mine up there.

Some updates. running the soft leaf setup didn't work out so well, and adding a second leaf on top didn't help either, this is the result after about 25 hours on this truck. You can see how the leaf deformed, this is the FRONT axle and they bent BEHIND the axle. I'm now running a medium leaf under the main

When you put the medium leaf under the main leaf and remounted to axle, did it straighten out your main leaf?

Not really, so I bent it back by hand carefully. I should mention this has only happened to the front axle, the rear with 1 single leaf are still working great and no signs of deformation yet.

I am having trouble deciding which setup I like better, medium leaf on top with zip-tie's behind the axle (softer, but may deform the front of the leafs), or medium underneath with no zip-ties (a little too hard for my liking)

I was hoping that after a few hours of run time the springs would soften some. I am running my small leaf on top of the main leaf with zip ties on the front and medium on top of main in the rear without zip ties.

the main leafs do soften a bit, but only so much. Taking off the stock shocks will give a little more up/down travel too, the shocks are a bit useless
