Re: scale driver

This would be a good thread to keep track of all the drivers that fit well. Here's mine, the first is with a 2$ action figure from a doller store, not sure on height.

And this is one of the guys from Gears of War, i'm sure if you google it you will find the height. Hard to find something that fits the seats, steering wheel, windshield, and legroom!

Re: scale driver

I really don't think there is a driver that fits perfectly. Since there is no molded area of the body under the dash for the driver's feet, you have to use a short driver with short legs or a tall driver with foreshortened legs. Best thing to do in my opionion is to take a character that is too tall and cut him to fit the proportions of the driver's seat and hide the cut parts with clothes. I would start with a 9 or 10 inch figure and use clothes from a 12" G.I. Joe (which is too tall) or clothes from a boy Bratz doll to cover the cut out parts of the body....if you're willing to shop for doll clothes. ;-)

Either way, if the driver does not look through the top of windshield, he is probably too short for scale. This is not a true 1:10 scale Jeep CJ3A. It's closer to 1:7 scale.

.....just my opinion.

8" seems about right... i have hunter dan in mine too

I started with 7", then 8". If you look at 1:1 jeeps the driver's head is as tall as the windshield. And the knees hang out the side. I found my vintage Big Jim in the attic. He is 12" and still not too big I think. Here is a shot - the set underneath him is still missing but the position is about right.

By the way: added a moving steering wheel simply by putting a servo behind it hooked up with a y-connector to the steering servo ;-)

Found a pic on wiki - hope it's okay to use here:

Re: scale driver

Jed Clampett figure was 8" tall, had to slice his boots off to get fit on floorpan right. Now Jed was a tall man anyway so his head is juussst a tick over the top of the windshield but heck, that is why he wears that ole hat!

Re: scale driver

I use Hunter Dan and Hunter Ann. They are said to be 8" figures.

The second picture is kind of deceiving because I am pointing the camera up towards the Jeep so the characters seem much shorter than the windshield which isn't the case.

Re: scale driver

technically if a guy was 6 foot then he would be about 10 in in a 1:7 scale truck right? If a guy that is 8 inches is a good fit then that would make the man about 4 1/2 foot tall lol So the real question is what scale is the sawback???:ror:

Re: scale driver

I'm using a 1/6 scale figure. I had to shorten him a lot. He has no lower legs anymore, his neck was shortened a bit and I basically glued his ribcage to his hipbone. I might take a few mm out of his forearms, they look a bit long now compared to his body.
With the insane amount of options for heads, clothing and accessories, 1/6 figures are the best option IMO.

I'm using this guy. He was right at 12 inches when I bought him. I took an inch or so out of his torso, and a little from each leg so I could get the boots to fit inside. The packaging is long gone and I can't remember his details.

I got Marcus from gears of war from ebay and he is a little too tall. I don't want to cut him up so I am still searching for a driver.

I found 8" figures from "Lost" on amazon. 2 figures for $9.83 shipped. I'll post picks later.

Maybe you could possibly give him a quick measurement?

IMO this is the perfect size for the Sawback. Willy's are small cramped vehicles in 1:1. "thumbsup"

Here's mine.. Unfortunately he's here before the truck came. But I think he will fit good in the jeep & he already has a sunburn.

Re: scale driver

I think this marionette is the best size for the Sawback. He is between the 8" Lost figures and the 12" G. I. Joe figures. I will still have to make a few body modifications to make him fit perfectly, but with some sunglasses and maybe a hat, I think he will work.

He originally came with a satin shirt, before a wardrobe change.
