| New Sawback Sports
The postman delivered my new Sawback Sports today, so I laid out all of the parts I've been ordering and collecting for the past two months. This is my second Sawback and will have lots of upgrades to go along with the additions to the kit since the first release. |

Scalerfab made me some rock sliders, a center skid and this rear steel bumper, all painted flat black. The front bumper will be painted flat black to match. My order came with a free 35t Hackmoto V2 that I won't be using for this build. I bought a Savox SA-1230SG for steering and a cheap servo for turning the steering wheel with the front wheels. Plus, a new Floureon 5500 3 cell lipo to power it. Last edited by Alpha Male; 03-02-2015 at 09:16 PM. |

For motor and ESC I'm probably going to use the Axial 20t motor and AE-5. I found a couple of sets of LEDs to fill all of the light buckets. I have this 10" marionette to use as my driver that I decked out with some G.I. Joe accessories. Because of his loose joints, he should move with the Jeep and his hands will be attached to the steering wheel, so it will look like he is driving and not just along for the ride. Not sure if I'm going to use the license plates because they may be a bit too small. This is actually about 1:7 scale. The Converse shoes and several 1:6 scale accessories will be in the Jeep for some detail and the fuel filler cap will be recessed with a resin part instead of the kit decal. I found these awesome alloy beadlock wheels from Hot Racing that actually have valve stems built in. Stock tires for now, since this is going to be used as a trail truck. The wheels and tires look good together and are very much like the plastic wheels that came with the kit. Last edited by Alpha Male; 03-02-2015 at 10:16 PM. |

Aluminum upgrades and Gmade scale wheel hubs. I also got some CVAs and a stainless screw kit, which will get rid of the Phillips head screws, but I plan to use scale hardware from Locked-Up RC for some of those that show. You may notice the separate body mounts in this pic. They will help me hide how the body mounts to the chassis. The body posts will be attached to the underside of the body and point down into the mounts, where the pins will hold them in place. The only thing on the top will be the buttonhead screws and black washers, which will be covered. I hope to get started on this project tomorrow. It will definitely not be much like a standard Willy's Jeep, but it should be pretty cool when it's done.

| Re: New Sawback Sports Keep the pictures coming! My Sawback should be here this week, I hope. Where did you find the sport? I looked for two weeks before I pulled the trigger and finally gave up.

Nice wheels. The valve stems are an awesome touch! I also like the marionette idea. I can't wait to see how it fits inside. |

The axles are finished with plenty of Red and Tacky grease and I got scale bolts holding the diff covers on. The transmission is packed with grease and mounted to the Scalerfab skid plate (love that thing) with the 20t motor and the pinion installed. I also got the shackle mounts, shock mounts and body mounts installed on the chassis rails with scale bolts. Once it is complete, I plan to spray it all flat black. I hate to hide the pretty aluminum parts, but I don't do shiny. Shock bodies are getting a coat of white and the front bumper is now black, to match the rear bumper and sliders. Hopefully, more to come maņana. | ||

Some of the scale details that will be in the Jeep are worth mentioning, as well. These are all 1:6 scale accessories for 12" figures. Flare gun, pistol, shotgun, carabiners, flashlight, bolt cutters, binoculars, chem lights, knife with sheath, radio, coke bottle, metal canteen, a couple of bags and a watch for the driver's wrist. The pictures don't do them justice. |

I'm with ya on painting the shiny chit black. Also, the scale bolts look really good. Something else I guess I'll have to spend money on.

Not yet, but I got more done today, lol. I'm really digging the look of the scale bolts on the frame. |

The Sawback body really pisses me off. The marionette I have is the right scale, but I had to cut him down because the dimensions for the driver do not leave enough room. Broke my heart. First I used my Dremel to remove material from his legs so they would fold up tighter. He still didn't fit, so I foreshortened his legs above and below the knee joints. Sad looking. |

After installing the front bumper and trimming the body, I test fitted the servo for the steering wheel, the plastic parts and the driver. |

I still had to wind up cutting out the foot well. Sucks. The shocks are not installed yet and neither are the body posts, but this is where the final ride height should be, under load. |
