| Noisey tranny
Hello, I just completed my Sawback build, when I assembled the tranny everything went togather perfect and was very smooth, got my pinion set up smooth. When I give her forward or reverse I get a louder than expected ticking, pulled the tranny made sure everything was seated and Its still just as loud. Is this noise normal? Thanks |

When I finished mine up it made a lot of noise but after changing to a different brand pinion on the motor it did quiet it down a bit but still makes some noise

make sure the rr pinion is not over too far from the motor or the the top of the allen screw will touch the spur when it turns and make a clicking sound.

| Re: Noisey tranny I put a Bluetooth speaker under the body of mine. Helps drowned out the tranny noise When I first built mine I just knew I'd screwed up something in the transmission, but after tearing it apart three times and trying different kinds of grease and pinions I learned to live with it. I've beat the snot outta it and it's still going strong. Sounds even worse in rewind, but that's just a typical Sawback tranny. |

The loud gear sounds are pretty normal for a Sawback. I a used Gmade R1 pinion because the width of the pinion match the gear width in the transmission. It did reduce the gear noise a little. (Just a little) The gear sound from my Sawback reminds how loud the transmission was in my father's Jeep MB. |

We have a few in our club, and they are all loud in various ways. Swapping pinions doesn't seem to matter. Never had one fail though. No ticking though, just the gear mesh is noisy. Definitely check the pinon and be sure the setscrew isn't hitting the gear somehow. Pull the motor and spin the outputs by hand...if they spin freely without catching, you're good to go! If they do bind up in one spot, pull it apart and investigate. I've had small debris get stuck on the gears the past when building kits, just enough to make the gears notchy in 1 spot. |
