Default oil shocks w/leaf springs (no coil springs)

ive seen a few posts about this but still didn't learn much. I have mine set at half rebound with synthetic chain lube (i think its equivalent to 50 or 60-ish weight but its been about 20 years since ive built an RC).
i havent finished my sawback but the stock shocks seemed way too "bouncy" for me.
I'm using a combo of my old Associated and Losi truck rear shocks btw.

so is it better to have a quick rebound or a slower more resisting rebound? this feels like a newbie question but i wanted to ask directly in the sawback forum. sorry if im beating a dead horse guys

I ran the stock pogo sticks all last season. For the most part it did good, but when hitting a steep incline with a ledge at the bottom the wheel hop would get out of control. It looks very scale and kind of cool, but without dampening the performance suffers. So, for realism go with the stock boingers, and for performance and controllability, oil filled.

yeah the shocks and leaf springs are kind of what sold me on the sawback but then i found out theyre friction shocks... i thought i was getting scale looking dampers!

I haven't found many "scale" appearing shocks that offer dampening. I'm actually thinking of trying a set of Integy scale oil filled non-sprung shocks. Integy sucks for the most part, but they've got the only shocks that sound exactly like what I want so I'm going to probably waste 50 bucks but sometimes they do accidently make something good. Hope this is one of those times lol

I bought a set of scx10 shocks from RPP hobby and added 80wt oil to help control my sawback and they work amazing. I mounted them upside down and also added rc4wd red scale shock boots

Rebound refers to the amount/speed the shock decompresses. I.E. if they were set at half rebound once you compress the shock the shaft will only release half way. this way it wouldnt "shoot" upwards after that corner was compressed if they were set at full rebound (especially with a thinner oil and stiffer spring) in any case you like the way it performs with a thick oil, which i found works nice too... a thick oil will aid in controlling a "springy" rebound to keep it planted.

oh yeah with all that being said my rear is still using the leaf springs and is extremely stiff. Using one leaf compresses well but sags too much, and the thick oil might be too much for that single leaf to "spring" back because of the added resistance. i think im going to a lighter weight oil in the rear shocks...
