Little bit more work done.

I got the 12mm lights for the indicators and mounted them in a similar way to the headlights so they sit behind the grill. I've also got some small mesh to sit behind the grill.

I built some sloped surrounds for the lights, I think it helps keep the classic lines.

Fitted the rear lights, either gonna buy a hook or print a scaled (133 - 140%) version of this one from thingiverse, haven't decided yet. I still need to do the rear brake lights and indicators.

I also epoxied a load more joints.

I built the gearbox and the axles. Added the wheel wideners (def to thin without them).

I sleeved the steering linkage with some 6mm aluminium tube.

I also printed a CMS mount from thingiverse
and fitted that.

Not much this time. I wanted to at least try and replicate the sloped rear shocks the real Ugly Jeep has so I drilled a couple of new holes in the frame to allow me to slope them.

got a few more accessory parts on the way. I ordered some winch hooks for the front bumper, a rear shackle and a Hobbywing 1080 ESC. Not decide on motor yet.

You know how its. you're waiting for some parts. You can't really do much until you get them. Your mind wonders....

The Ugly Jeep needs a friend. Wiily's Jeeps. Got no funds. WWII vehicles. Something different. Perhaps even more scratch build. Other Jeeps. German Jeeps? Oh course! KUBELWAGEN!

Something like this....

More to come in another build thread once things progress further but the plan (so far) is:

scratch build a 3mm Foamex body
1:7th scale to match the ugly jeep and the HM armed forces figures
Repurpose the EXO chassis/drivetrain - wheelbase is almost spot on for 1:7th and the width should work too.
reverse motor mount and drive train to move backwards so I can do an open interior for the figures (at ther front at least)

Been a while. On a course for work and then got dicked about by ebay supplier, but finally made some more progress on the build.

Chassis painted (with brush as I wanted some texture), bit of paint used on the plastics as well to "rough it up" a bit. Bit more to do on the plastics, chassis plate will be black but battery tray and electics mount will be red(ish). The bottom two stills from the Dirt Every Day video illustrate the effect I'm looking for underneath.

I'll be flipping the rear shocks to match the real thing (see last photo).

I've ordered a POWERHD 20kg WP servo and a cheap Goolrc rebuildable 27T motor which should be here next week.

This is a very nice build. I love all the work you have put in to make it look like the real one.

Started on the paint work.

There's an undercoat of silver under the red. Ned to let this layer harden and will then start on weathering this layer . once thats done I'll do the brown and weather that. The red is a little darker than I expected

Anyway on with the photos....

Been a while. This is why.

New home office/hobby room. Almost 3 times as much desk space for the hobby area and loads more storage (which as you can tell is still getting sorted)

Now that I have a workspace back I can finally get on with the build again.

Other than obscenely priced RC4WD versions does anyone know where I can source a WARN 8274 style winch from? Ideally Asia or Europe. Im trying to build a 3D model I can print that will wrap around one or the smaller cheaper RC winches like this...

Not having much luck getting the level of detail I want though - I'm no 3D modeller . I'm sure a lot of others would appreciate something similar so if I do get anywhere I'll make sure to share somewhere.

This is a very cool build.
It has been just over a year since the last update.
Has there been much progress?
