Default Bent links question...

Is anyone using bent links on a TLT? I've seen tons of bent links on clods, but I have 2 TLT tubers that I'm building, and ground clearance is an issue. Since my WB is 12", I'd like to keep the links up and out of the way instead of having them drop at a sharp angle. I just wanted to know before I went ahead and ruined 4 links.

Check out this video.... You'll see the current leader in the ORCRC Bulu/TLT rig building dept doing what he does best, Kicking butt with his HC links.

Clearly, it works. My suspicion had been that the truck would snag a driveshaft without the protection of the straight lower links. I presume that to make the links you simply start bending a longer than necessary link and then measure end to end, cutting until you attain the length of the original link?

well i noticed on some the orcrc vids that most of those guys' driveshafts drag. but that is because they mount the links so hig up on the axle. so it shouldnt be a big deal. they seem to get away with it.

I have no body off shots of Vinny's TLT..... Let's just say that his Bulu1 rig is the top dog in the ORCRC group. It is using the forward thinking building process. Very short front links and long rear links which are a bent/HC link setup.

Most of the TLT axles running around have the lower links either mounted at the center of the axle or right on top... I'd say more have them centered.

My driveshafts drag only because I'm running the rather large Maxx sliders while just about everyone else is using 'Pede sliders with the SS yokes. I like the bigger shafts.....

I'm also running bent links with a chassis forward design.

I think of it this way - If I can abuse a clod that weighs nearly twice what the TLT wieghs and not damage links, it will work on the TLT.... Also I've found that with a chassis forward design, that the rear really benefits from a skid plate from link to link on the rear suspension.
