That kind freaks me out!!! Those crates look like big piles of french vanilla icecream. Aside from that, NICE WORK!!! That looks like something a crawling club could take on as a project. Each member builds a couple, spreading out the cost. When the weather is crappy there could be garage-comps with each member bringing their pieces. Because different members show up to differnent events the course would always be different. |

Well I went looking for crates to start our indoor course. Went to Wal-mart, K-mart, Lowes, Meijer, even Staples. Every store had some with two equal sides but not four:-( Sooo thats what I had to get. Guess we only have two ways to turn each one to change our course. O well. Anyway we got some plaster cloth and started making a few. Kind of a fun little family project. Going to take up half my sons room. lol |

Has anyone found an alternate supply for the Dental Plaster? The Ebay link seems to be gone. Edit: To answer my own question. How does this stuff look? http://www.accucastdental.com/index.html Not sure if $6.00/lb is comparable to the price you were getting off of Ebay. Last edited by icius; 06-01-2012 at 01:46 PM. |

Have you gone through with the zebra style or granite looking end product? That would be neat to see.

this is an incredible idea. I love how you can change it up. Although the cost would make it impossible for me. Years ago I had a crap ton of crates just sitting around, if I only would have kept those around. I am going to be working on my own course here soon, but I just picked up a bunch of pallets I'll create something with quick crete. How would the texture of the plaster compare to a quick crete sort of mix?

sorry too slick has left the hobby. crash has all the stuff now. but i think quick crete might work good. its got the sand in it you need for tracton. just may get a tad heavy in the end.

Halloween home haunters use "monster mud" for props and statues-which is joint compound (cheap) mixed with cloth and latex paint mixed in for color...it might work for this . Dennis |

I'd be worried about impacts and wear with plaster. I'm planning to make some "man made" rock area at our clubs' new indoor site. I was planning a static fixture, but seeing this I'm thinking it might be cool to make part modular like this. Has anyone tried mortar for a covering?

Wow that is epic. I would be curious the amount of money in material that is there, minus the bed lining and labor of course. Struggling on what direction I want to go in the months to come.

48x96x12 styrofoam is around 140.00 each ....it took about 30-40 sheets, and it takes up about 26' of a semi trailer Last edited by ZoSo; 11-20-2014 at 01:25 PM. |

| Re: Artificial Rock Course How is a durability and weight? I love the face you can set this up different each time. I've had this pipe dream for awhile now. I love an "artificial" course, but I want to be able to easy change some aspects. Rocks are easy, but they are heavy |
