Default threading shock shafts? anyone done it?

id like to take a TLT shock shaft, and cut about 1/2" off the end of the shaft (threads included) and re-thread the shaft with a (manual)die set. but those shafts are so hard i wasnt sure if it was possible, anyone done it?

I'm sure you can do it, but not by hand.

Why not just get a shorter shaft? Touring car etc??

Maybe a guy could cut to length file a flat in the shaft and set screw the rodend back on.

use a test shaft and try to heat it to break down the temper in the metal.

Somtimes its more fun to just work with what you got rather than just dip in youre wallet most can do that.

A couple of bucks is worth saving the aggravation.

shafts are pretty hard and holding them with out marring them all up will be the tricky part but it could be done. I agree with rizzo find some TC shafts.

you could buy a same thread die like out of a tap and die set, it might take you 5 minutes a shaft, but hey its saves you money, plus when your done just return the die back to ace hardware or whatever and say it didnt work, haha then it was free!!!

I was going to do the samething on my brothers Bronco build up. I just figured I couldn't hold the shaft without marring it. Also those dies are expensive. So I just went with 1/8 set screw collars. Not sure if that would work for you though.

If you need the end on it.
Maybe you could use a dremel disk or lathe to cut new E clip slots?

I'm sure you can hunt for some off another kit? Tamiya's are like legos.

Tamiya metal is pretty soft usually.

Could you not cut off the other end and machine in some new Eclip recesses?

Should be no problem with a good quality die .Just make sure the shaft is the right diameter for the thread as some are turned down so the thread is a smaller diameter than the shaft itself. I've made shock shafts out of Meyer's gauge pins before and they are hardened to 52 rc,so ya it can be done.
