Default best bang for the buck???

i am new at the rc crawler side of stuff but not to four wheeling/offroading, i am in the process of building a 2.2 tube chassis out of solid 1/8 rod and my mig welder but on a college budget i can't affort the latest and greatest parts to put in it.

i can fab/make alot of things but what would be the best and cheapest speed controller, motor, tranny, servos etc that i could build a good crawler on a budget... I was thinking mostly wheely king based but tell me what u guys think... ur the experts...

Buy some used parts, you will save a bundle. Build your own chassis, links, and link mounts. Buy some tires/ wheels used, you will likely save 40% on used stuff in this area (unless you go with the latest and greatest).
Servo- buy new from JP in the vendors area, MG946r for $20
Find yourself a used 55t lathe motor, probably looking at about $15-20 shipped.
ESC, again, find a used TR2, Super Rooster, or newer Rooster used for anywhere from $45- 65 shipped.
Trans, you could buy a used pede or new Axial, $25- 40 shipped

also look on some of your local rc forums for some parts. Rc is an addiction so most are into racing and wheeling.
