Default Poulson axles w/ GC-2 (prototype)

Well look what showed up in the mailbox today. This new chassis looks sweet. The cuts are very smooth with excellent machine work. The new holes will help allow everyone to setup their truck the way that they want to and to their terrain. I have seen Gatekeeper's setup run and it blows the GC1 away. The truck just sticks to the rocks.

The new delrin skid is super slick and comes predrilled for the axial tranny. The skid is still 2" wide (just like the GC1) but is cut to use longer lower links.

On to some pics

Now I have to break down my GC1 so that I can use my poulson axles and everything else from it. Part list:

Poulson axles w/ poulson slipper
axial tranny with VF dig as soon as TCS gets their shipment in
Hitec 225 for the dig
Hitec 5955 for steering
BM9 from TCS
Mamba 25 (for now)
CC BEC
Losi rock claws or badlands
black proline beadlocks
thunder power and maxamps 3 cell 11.1v lipos
Traxxas steel yokes
jato shafts front and rear
Losi rock crawler shocks
Nomadio tx/rx

I had a brushless setup on it. Your new rig is going to be pretty awesome.

Got the old chassis torn down. Now since I have the axles taken off, I can do all of the mods that Mike Poulson did to his axles to help make them a little more rock friendly.

First I drew up were to cut and then chucked up the carbide cutter to the dremel. Off to do some shaping

Nice Yukon

We had a comp over the weekend and cspyy from Louisiana came. He was running the Poulson axles with his own custom chassis. He took third in 2.2 and his rig performed very well. Those Poulson axles are very nice indeed, especially with all that ground clearance. My son did very well with his GC1 AX-10. I am very interested to see how the GC2 performs with the Poulson's. I'm subscribed, and good luck

Yeah I was going to try to make it to that comp but school has been taking up all of my time and what free time I have, I am always building. These axles are freakin awsome

Thanks man, I am hoping the chassis works great with these axles as it does with axial axles

Thanks, I only wish it could be close to as nice as you did with your poulson axles

well here is how she sits for tonight. I have been busy making some upper links out of 6/32 all thread and sleeving it with some carbon fiber I found at the hobbyshop. The lowers measure around 120 mm, which is pretty close if not dead even with stock axial links. The upper are still the 102 mm links.

I tried my best to mount these things like I had done when I had my GC1 and not drill into these masterpiece of axles but in the end, there was just no way to get around it. After careful measuring and taking my time, she sits at 12 7/16" wheelbase and 2 3/4" of ground clearance under the belly. I may lower it an 1/8" or even a 1/4" to keep the weight low.

On to the pics

Here you can see the front upper link mounted under the axle plate. I had to space it with a 3mm nut to get the link off the plate so that it can rotate when articulating. I still want to countersink the two upper link screws to clean it up.

Here is the rear:

Let me know what you think.

Looking good Kevin, but I was under the impression you wanted the rear uppers in the lower hole and the front uppers higher up, or is it because of where they mount on your axles. Any special secret reason you have it like it is? Mind you, I don't have a GC chassis yet.

Not sure about the GC1, but I believe these work better the way he has them now.

I am not sure behind the reasoning of the link placement but from what I remember Gatekeeper explaining it to me was that some how with the longer lower links and the upper link placement, Having the higher upper links in the rear some how kept the front planted to the rocks. Maybe the man himself will chime in and let us know. I am going off of how he has his setup. I could have had the fronts higher and the rears lower, so i will play with the setup but I set it up first Gatekeeper's way, since this is the way he has found to work the best

well I worked on the battery tray this morning and also mounted up the tranny (waiting on the VF dig). It is hard to see in the pics but I got the best shots I could, but I bent the battery mount to lower the COG down a little (every little bit counts).

Helpful hint for those that are limited to tools and dont have the luxury to all sorts of machine tools. All of the bends were not at 90 degrees and some of the bends had to be angled to clear the tc3 diff or the drive shafts. here is what I found to help with that. Placing the drill bit either in the bend or further out allowed you to take the hammer and increase or decrease the bend angle

Now for the the motor. I had trouble with the motor plate deflecting when in a bind and it caused me to strip gears and take costly repair points, not to mention it was very aggravating.

Since I am a cheap ass and like to cut corning were I can here is my alternative to paying $30 for another plate. First this is a 1 mm thick aluminum L bracket. The pics should explain how it works and the mounting spots. It has worked very well for me. If you are going to try this with a brushed motor, the screw that comes through the skid needs to be placed closer to the housing of the tranny because the brushed motors sit millimeters away from the skid.

also for all of you power whores The cobalt motor will not fit. the only way i could see it fitting with the axial tranny is when you order a chassis from Gatekeeper is to tell him you want a blank skid and you can move the tranny forward at most 2 mm and maybe shave a little off of the chassis plate, but I really dont think it will work. Here is a pic of a cobalt 5T
