new to pti and have some questions

First off how strong are these axles? The axles are all that I am useing.
Are there any good reliable mounts for the links?
Also my rear diff is not locked, and I would like to know the best way to lock it. I looks like it is just a ball diff.

The set-up that I am useing is------------
Cutting board for my chassis sides
E-Savage tranny
Assorted links (some revo, some t-maxx)
T-maxx driveshafts
PTI wheels
Axial Rock Lizard tires
Integy 55T motor
PTI axles
Tazer 15T ESC (run in reverse)
Spectrum DX3 RX, TX
bug body that is for a E-Savage
Hitec 645MG for the servo
Don't know on the battery yet, but I will probly build one

I will post some pics on here in a little while. And thanks for any help guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

get your link mounts from PTI (or make them from aluminum L channel)

either use a spool for a tc3 or pick up one from PTI

Not sure about that e-savage tranny, I think I would sell it and get an axial

PTI wheels will last about 10sec.... pick up some HPI MT stars, they are about $8 a pair

The E-Savage tranny is bullet proof. It is all hardend metal gears. The motor postion is not great, but it is strong. The wheels I didn't figure that they would last very long. They seem kinda soft. I do have a Pete trany, but not sure if I want to use it or not. It will need to be locked in. Any way here are some pics of it so far. http://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z...5/DSC01338.jpg

interesting....... figured the larger tranny would make it heavier, i use the stock one with a n RC4wd 4:1 gear reducer HUGE difference..... but looks good so far. Oh and what did you use to convert to outputs on the axles??

the problem i have with the savage tranny is CG...look how high your motor is mounted... An axial or clocked WK would drop your CG by at least an inch and realy help side hilling

I don't have any problem side hilling yet, but I guess that it could always be better a? Like I said earlyer I do have a pete tranny that I could use, But it wouldn't be as strong I wouldn't think. The axle outputs where already done when I got the axles. It looks like they brazed some different ends on them. They do work though. My real problem is I think that I need a better way to mount the links to the axles. I an not happy with the way they are now. The lowwer mounts hang down kinda low, and the upper mounts are holes that I drilled in to the top of the hub carrier.

felteater2005 06-01-2008 04:54 PM

Im sorry the uppers are in the middle. the lowwers are mounted by holes that I drilled in to the hub carrrier.

Heres some pics of the way that my links are set-up. Please tell me what ya'll think, and what I might need to change.

thats an interesting lower link arrangement... I would think that you would hang up allot.

felteater2005 06-02-2008 01:23 PM

I haven't realy tried it. I can't find any rocks around here.LOL
I think that it will hang up, but I don't know of anywhere eles to put them. I don't want to buy any parts, but I can fab anything. So any ideas?

jetboat 06-02-2008 02:26 PM

http://www.ptiracing.net/shop_axles_and_chassis.php4
part # 23400

all it basically is, is a piece of thing L bracket aluminum with a notch out of it and some holes drilled...prolly cost you $1 and 1 hr to make all 4 if that. Ill see if I can find a pic of my truck with them installed.

felteater2005 06-02-2008 05:10 PM

sweet those look easy. I realy need a better picture of them though. Can you find one of yours?

SACCO 06-02-2008 07:31 PM

whats a pete tranny? J/K bro, glad you are still crawlin. Looks promising, but the COG is gonna kill ya.

btw Doug, I got a stock ax-10 chassis that is yours if you want it. PM me your address and gimme a week or so to get it out if you decide you want it. It also has a custom skid with the inverted link setup too.

felteater2005 06-03-2008 01:27 PM

send it to me. I can always try it.
