Default How quiet is the R2 trans?

I was thinking on ordering one of these for my new AX10 because the entire trans and dig is about the same price as a dig unit for the stocker, lol. My question is how noisy is the R2 compared to the stock unit? I read the review and it says "Quieter than any other trans w/ all metal gears" but it could still sound like a chainsaw, and I don't want that, lol.

If your concerned about noise the R2D is not for you.

Its not quiet for sure. Very squeaky but, it adds character I love the sound of mine now. Its all metal gears so I guess you will have that. Ive had Zero problems with mine. I would recommend it even with the noise They also are designing a new R2D

Not quiet at all!! But, from my experiences they are hella tough. I have a r2 in my wk tuber, tlt tuber, and a axial w/ vf dig in my ax slingshot. Ive used a 10t cobalt puller on 3s lipo, HH crawlmaster on 4s lipo, and novak goat on 2s lipo and NEVER had any problems.((And yes, I do beat the crap out of all of my rigs)

And to answer your question, the axial is quieter

put a 14t pinion, novak 55 and at full throttle it sounds like a dying elephant. When I let mine loose it is extremely loud, almost anoying. It is hard to talk over.

If you keep it nice and lubed with good gear mesh it's not any louder than most. At least mine is, and I have had it quite some time now.

If you lube it with Rocksmith's red grease your watch might make more noise.

I tried an R2 a while back. Noisy little thing. I could let the noise go if The gears would hold. I went to an Axial tranny and love it.

Axial tranny and a driveline dig. Works great, cheap and it's quiet.

Default come on feel the noise........

I have a flipped r2d on my bruiser hybrid with a goat brushless and a A123 9.9. I love it, i can go from 2wd to 4wd plus lock the front to do red neck burn outs. What i find funny is that every time i rip on it people think its falling apart and it does sound that way too but it is holding up just fine. 3/4 throttle sounds soooo bad. I had it up montana doing trail runs with jason, badger and bender. They didnt ask but man all i heard was one person after another asking what the hell that noise is or Danm, you better go check your rig out... It held out all day bashing it around, fell off the bridge once or twice oh yea and badgers brick of a rig tumbled down on it after a multiple rig tow up the bonus gate failed @ msd nats.(Got any video of that by the way jason?) Anyway, my R2d has held in there since i tossed it in my rig and took a heck of a beating all weekend with no issues. All i got was a broken A pillar. I havent tried the grease that was mentioned previously. I like a quiet scaler but the noise doesnt bother me much anymore on my yoda. All i care about are the gears holding up and they have so far. Ax-10 trannys are smaller, cheaper and way quieter than an r2 but i guess thats to be expected with plastic gears.

X2 I use the gear jelly in my R2D with a goat crawler and stock pinion that comes with the trans and it's just a tad louder than the stocker.

very tolerable.
