Gettin ready to do my second crawler. Gonna be tube frame, but the main thing I haven figured yet is axles. Probably gonna go with a stampede tranny. 1. What are the widths of each axle? I have heard good and bad about both. I am assuming the X axles are the wider of the two. I think this will probably be the deciding factor, as I am going for the biggest I can build this time around. Only thing is, they are hard to come by on EBay.......... Anyone have some they are wanting to get rid of?

Look for allyshobbies (sp?) on ebay. I had a quote from them a few months ago for around $160 shipped for a complete pair of factor axles.

The WMS to WMS of the Twin/Mad Force axle is around 12 1/4 to 12 1/2" wide. The good thing is,a guy could swap axle tubes to achieve a wider/narrower stance. Use 2 long side tubes for a wider stance and 2 short side tubes for a skinnier stance. One thing I'd like to try with my Twin axles, machine custom tubes to achieve a wider axle and angle them at the same time, simular to a maxx hybrid solid axle. Although I may just end up getting 2 long side tubes and dogbones and be done with it.

i was thinking about same thing as raptor said, the tues ( or sides of axles) to be at an angle, to give clearance to center gearbox

Once you widen or shorten the axle tubes, what do you do about the axles? Custom yourself, or do you use something like maxx axles?

If you use 2 long side tubes, use 2 long side dogbones. Very simple actually and no custom stuff or fabrication needed.

I sse know. I have never seen force axles in person. Last night I downloaded the exploded view. Definately simple. Has anyone been playin with different driveshafts from their tranny? Just want to know what kind of problems you have had adapting pinions and the like......... Would like to use a pede tranny, but I dont have to. I just want to stay away from the force tranny, and would like to use slider shafts ala TMAXX.

I'm going to be using EMaxx sliders for my driveshafts. The maxx slider has a 6mm yoke, the Twin axle accepts a 6mm yoke. Take off the factory drive cup, drill the 2 flat spots out of the maxx slider yoke, slide on and tighten a set screw. For the tranny side,at first I was gonna use the Twin tranny(8mm output shaft) and just drill the yoke out to 8mm. I've decided that I'd like to have a 2 speed. I'm going to use a 2 speed from an Emaxx and, well, that makes installing the slider pretty simple.

Here ya go......... http://www.rccrawler.com/postx1576-0-30.html Don't know if that will take you right to it,if it doesn't you can read the info on the 3rd page. If you have access to or a freind with a mill and or a lathe,I'm sure you could widen them fairly easy. I plan on making mine about 2" wider so I can run more offset on my wheels and keep my width. Again, sorry for the misinformation. I just wanted to point this out so you wouldn't do anything on false info. Sorry man :( | |
