Default Project: RC10T2 Crawler! Update: 45% done!! Look at pg 2.

I have been itching to get a crawler, but I can't come up with the money since I am in major debt. I am 14, so I dont make much money other than chores and moving lawns.

My project is going to be made from 2 RC10T2s. I am a noob to the crawling part of rc, so if I say something noobish, or say something incorrect, please tell me.

To the poject.... Since I have 2 t2s, I was thinking about taking the rear ends from the cars to make it 4wd, make it solid axle, 4 link... etc. I have not done any chassis plans, since I am just thinking of this tonight. I am not sure how I'm going to do all this, but I will start taking pics when the projects gets started truely on saturday.

I am thinking of making it about 15 inches long, and 12-13 inches wide.

I really need some help, and input on the project... So please, tell me anything that I will most likely have trouble on. I havn't seen any rockcrawlers made out of stadium trucks, so I am kind of on my own here....

I will post pics of the stock t2s tommorow that way you can see what I'm working with.

Peace

Sounds very similar to what many other people have done in the past with Stampedes.... made a 4wd Stampede.

I say go for it and see what happens. You'll have to make your own chassis if you want to keep it IFS/IRS. Otherwise you could use nearly any chassis that can be used on a Clod for that matter as you'll have a similar setup, dual motors yet having there own tranny/diffs.

Take lots of pictures as you build.

One of my friends made a crawler with 2 stampede rearends. He did not make them solid but Im sure you will be able to. Get some pics on here so we know what u got. There are so many smart people on here you should have no proplem getting it to work.

I will start thinking up the project tommorow. I thought of the steering, and wastnt sure how that was going to work. I will cross the bridge when I get there :P lol... I will start looking at some clods then.

Toyo, I want to make it solid axle. If I went independent, how would I do it??? If it is easier, I would rather stay independent.

Ive seen it before (Im sorry I cant rember whear I saw it) but it might of been T3 trannys? same concept anyway. but for steering I think he used rc10 buggy steering ends. good luck.

why not only use 1 RC10 and leave the other alone?

you could take the rearend and turn it sideways or however on a custom chassis.lock the diff, then use it for the trans. your axles would then be the driveshafts. then you could build some Maxx hybrid straight axles or use x-factor axles,TXT,etc.etc. you would just need to modify some driveshafts that would work since i think the RC10 axles are pretty small to start with.

just another option

Well, I got some pics. I couldn't think of any more ideas. I just got back from training, so I havn't had time to think of any ideas for it.
Twisted, I don't think I really understand what you mean. I don't want to use other axles becasue i don't have the money. Oh yeah, I'm in $200 debt (lol a lot to me!) I was in $700, but I have been paying it off for a while. That stupid tmaxx was killing me. I probley spent 500 on it, and it looks like it has had nothing done to it. money pit.
nktrl, I saw that too. I had the site on my fav list, but I had to kill my computer yesterday.
Toyo, I woould like to know on how you would keep it ifs/irs....
I am going to change the tranny later on when I get some money. I will probley go to a pede tranny.

The stupid jpg made the pics some what bad quality, srry. If you can't tell, I have been messing with the car... thats y some shocks and tires are off.

More pics added. Front is off on one, back end is off on the other.

I just got a couple ideas. I put my t-maxx wheels on it, and it looked horrible. So, I am going to make my crawler like a tlt-10, just a little different. It is going to have the same dimentions as wookies crawler, but just a little bit different.

W00T, I just found the monster truck rc10.

On this pic... see the braces, is that where I could mount the links for the 4 link??? I have never seen a 4 link or a crawler in person, so I don't know how they work. That monster truck is really helping me out with ideas.

My newest idea is.....
http://www.rcpics.net/media.php?sear...earch&limit=10 look at the 4th pic down.

I was thinking that the chassis could rotate on a ball. I have never seen this, so I doubt it will work, but hey, it would be pretty cool. Let me know if that would be a good or bad idea. If it is bad, i'll do the 4link (or try )

Bad news: My motor or esc is mest up on one of my cars, so I am going to have to mess with that. Which brings up a very noob question, how can I run 2 motors on 1 esc (lol i'm such a noob) .... The only problem with running one esc would be that the esc wouldnt be able to reach both motors on the end of each car.

Another question, how I'm I going to get bigger tires on there?? If I am going to do that ball thing, I wont have shocks in the way, but it just look funny right now.

Hey what's up! U know I've been thinking about this project of yours. I don't think the idea of using 2 rc10 tranny's is feasible. The gearing won't be anywhere near where you'd want it for a crawler.

For example: the biggest spur you could have is 96tooth I think, and the smalles pinion gear, say 10t.

Not sure what the gear ratio of a rc10t2 tranny is but let's say 2.5:1

96/10 = 9.6

9.6*2.5 = 24:1

For crawling you want something at least 50:1

However, if you used 2 gd-600 gear reductions(3.8:1), one on each tranny that would get you around 91:1 ratio. Much better

BUT, that would take alot of space, a gd-600 on each end, PLUS steering would have to be figured out. Most crawlers mount their servos on top of the axle somehow.........man, this axle would be bulky! It would be VERY unique and not like anything I've seen or heard before tho!

OR THIS:

You have a t-maxx right? Why not use the front and rear suspension, convert into solid axles and use one T2 tranny turned sideways to drive the front and rear, connect the sliders, 4link it, and your ready to go. Pretty much having a solid e-maxx crawler with a t2 tranny instead.

Oh, if i'm wrong in any way here, someone plz correct me.

Dont cut the chassis. Just make your own. Its better to have one botched car than two. Just take the trannys off and mount them to a home made one. Plus a problem I see with your design it, once you get it off the ground whats going to hold the center up? 2 links will not support the center and it will litterly be a belly dragger. THe first time I tried to build my own chassis I have a similar idea. But what I used was sheet aluminum made it into 2 brackets like this ] [ But the tops were longer than the bottom. I drilled a hole in the center and ran a bold throught it. It would of worked great, but I couldent find a bearing combo that would work. So the chassis would either not spin, or when it did it had to much play. Plus it lookd like crap so I tossed it.

I dont think thats going to work. the middle is just going to drag on the ground. Make a chasis out of alum plate.
