Rock racer motor?

I'm about to complete a Goliath build that I'm setting up as a rock racer. I'm now trying to decide what motor and pinion to use for this purpose. I'm not using a gru of any kind in order to retain the relatively high gearing of the Goliath in it's stock form. I have retained the stock Imex Red Rock tires (on beadlocks) as well. Any suggestions or ideas would be more than welcome at this point.

a 55t w/ stock gearing was perfect for me as long as it doesnt way a lot.

Rock racer motor?

Thanks for the ideas you are sending.

I should also add that I'll be running a 6 cell nimh 4/5A pack in this rig. I may try my 2s lipo in it as well once I run it for a while with the 4/5A pack and get it set up to my liking.

If you build a drivetrain to handle the power, I don't think there's a better rock racer motor out there than the Holmes Hobbies Cobalt. I don't run PTI axles so I don't know what you would need to do to beef them up to handle the power, but if you can get them stout, the cobalt motors are premium for a project like that. They have enough torque that you can gear them however you want to limit wheelspeed, from an 8 or 9 tooth pinion for optimal crawling gearing, to a 20-25 tooth pinion according to John Robert, and still have rediculous low end torque while keeping the wheelspeed that you're looking for.

You will probably need to get bigger batteries if you want a good bit of speed, but I bet you can get 15mph out of a 35t and proper gearing. You may go as low as a 25t if the ESC and batteries can take it.

If you can find one of John Robert's 35 turn handwound 540 motors, IMO they are the best motors on the market besides his cobalt motors. I have several of each, and it's the only motors that I run.
