Question How to shift from high to low? Speed?

When shifting from High to Low and vise versa, what do you think is best? Shift while moving, or shift at a stop and then move forward or reverse? Mine makes a horrible grinding sound when it goes into the other speed.

I couldn't ever find this in the manual or on the DVD. Pretty cool DVD though, none the less.

TIA,
Keith

I would have to say it would be best from a dead stop, or moving very slowly only to help the gears up.

Yup, I'd say just like in the "real world" (where most of my experience comes from) shift at a dead stop and then accelerate very slowly to engage the gears or, when going from low to high, engage while moving as slowly as you can.

In the 'real world', it depends if you have a fully gear driven transfer case, or a chain driven xfer case. A Wrangler or anything with a NP231 case and you should be rolling while shifting, and geared case like my Dana 20 in the CJ5 and you need to be at a dead stop, or barely rolling.

But since this thing has some kind of servo moving the shifter, I didn't know if mine was different than anyone elses as far as the grinding sounds. In a fullsize Jeep, you can feel the grinding when shifting, and will know if something is wrong or not.

BTW, I'm new to RC's, so my question may sound retarded to some.
Thanks for the comments, keep 'em coming.

Your differentiation in the real world is well taken, Keith. I was not attempting to make so fine a point - merely saying that, as in the real world, shifting the transfer case at full throttle (or anything above minimal throttle) would not be a good idea.
