Hard Coating polystyrene (foam) ?

Im not talking about bedliner!

What i am looking for is the stuff that they use to make synthetic caves and such. At I-hobby Duratrax and losi had layouts that appeared to be just hard coated foam. It was a better (less) traction than bedliner and more durable plus I have to imagine cheaper. I have found a few refferences to DIY stuff online but none of the manufactures have returned my emails... As large as this forum is someone out there has to know something....

Contact RCP, they are making rock crawling pods and I know that they do the displays at rc conventions. They should definitely have the answers to those types of questions.

I made a crawler demo pod thing a while ago and just coated it with PVA glue. I mixed a little sand it to give it extra traction and it worked great.

The only draw back was that it couldn't be used it out doors but I didn't build it for outdoor use anyway.

I was looking at the stuff from Hotwirefoam... 3# $9 25# $29... definatly pays to buy in bulk. I just cant find any user reviews of the stuff and hate to waste $50 on it ($25 shipping) if it wont workout.
