painted jeep grille? has anyone painted the grille of their 1:18 jeep? i mean, after a paint job, what came black... the "inserts," i guess... i'm trying to figure out a good way to paint them. i was going to use some model paint and a brush, but i don't have any anymore. i would like to just use rattle can, but i dont know if taping it off would really be the best idea, since these things are so small... i used a Sharpie and it turned out like garbage, so i'm ruling that out... i know this sounds kinda like a stupid question, but i really would like to know how you guys accomplished it if you did... thanks. |
just mask stuff off w/blue painters tape and then spray away |
i second that. put some 3 inch blue tape over all of them and then cut along the seam of each grille... i cant think of a better way to do it. |
Got any brushable acrylic? I did a model bronco grill once, paint it in then wipe the excess off with a damp paper towel. I would get a picture but I gave the model to my friend so he could "dispose" of it, he didn't wait for me to show up to watch, he either blew it up with fire works or nitro mowered. |
isn't there a substance that paint will not stick to? vaseline, maybe? i remember something like that where paint just would not stick to it. anyone know what it is? and does it wipe off/wash off easily? |
Theres that liquid mask stuff people use on lexan bodies. I'd do like I said with the acryic or lay some tape on the grill and cut the openings out. |
maybe a Sharpie? |
a sharpie would work but start to look like crap after awhile. you would have to keep redoing it. |

I taped mine off. It took about 20 minutes to do the whole thing. It is not the best job, but I think it looks better than stock. Here is a link http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/general-crawlers/14237-i-got-one.html |
he's not talking about the body, hes talking about painting the slats in the grille. |
